QOTD Friday (superstitions)
Are you superstitious? If so, what are you superstitious about? Do you have a lucky piece of jewelry or throw salt over your shoulder or anything like that?
Re: QOTD Friday (superstitions)
Back when I took tests (finals, SATs, GREs, LSATS, comps), I had a pair of socks that I wore. I always did well. They were pretty threadbare by the time I took my comps in grad school, but I still wore them.
I still have them, but they're buried in the back of a drawer. I should have worn them to my GD test last year, lol. Maybe I wouldn't have had to test my blood sugar for two months!
I say "knock on wood" a lot but I don't really believe anything will happen if I don't say it - it's more of a habit. I also have a good luck token from a Japanese shrine that I keep in my car. No accidents so far - knock on wood
My grandmother always has to exit through the same door she entered (e.g., she won't go out the back door at my parents' house if she came in through the front door), but I am not sure what she thinks will happen if she doesn't use the same door.

I do the knock on wood thing, and when I say it, I try to knock on something wood-like if possible.
I used to have a small wooden bear figure that I would put in my suitcase when I traveled. I don't think it actually did anything, but it was more of a habit/tradition after a while. Although one time I had to go on a trip with a partner who I really disliked, and the night before the trip, I "asked" the bear to do something so I wouldn't have to deal with the partner. The partner ended up canceling at the last minute, and I went on the trip by myself. After that, I HAD to take the bear with me on my work trips... lol.
The only thing I can think of is that I say a little prayer/mantra (in my head) whenever I am flying during take off and landing, as well as other times where I am in situations where I feel afraid:
The will of God will not take me
Where the hand of God cannot care for me.
I'm very superstitious.
The things I do most are: salt over my shoulder, don't walk under ladders; when a black cat crosses my path I point at it with devils horns, hiss, and turn in 2 cirlces, first counter clockwise, then clockwise (sounds crazy, but it's not as crazy as what my mom does); knock on wood; and I try not to break mirrors.
We make the rockin' world go 'round.
Not particularly superstitious, but just a touch crazy might sum it up better.
For every audition in high school, I wore a necklace with a little music note charm on it and also ate a piece of a Hershey's Symphony bar. Don't laugh... my friends did, but it always worked!
If one of my hubby's (Arizona) teams is in a playoff situation, he'll not only wear the same thing (usually a jersey, hat, etc.) that he wore the last time they won, but will also eat the same thing prior to the game. At least he doesn't attempt a playoff beard! He makes the dog wear a certain bandanna as well (or no bandanna if Scout wore it and they lost the previous game). MIL indulges the crazy and sews team-themed bandannas for Scout.

Stand up for something you believe in.
On a related note, I've now jinxed myself by emailing DH this morning that it should be a nice quiet day, and I shouldn't have too much to do before leaving for vacation tomorrow. I just got back from our staff meeting to a major tasker that will need to be finished before I leave tonight. Ugh. Guess I should have knocked on wood!
