This pregnancy is going to give me a heart attack

After 4 weeks of non-stop spotting, I started spotting bright red earlier today.  Maybe TMI, but previously it had always been dark brown which was reassuring.  Anyway, I called up my doctor who had me come in for an US.  My doctors office is over an hour away from my house, so it was a long car ride there.  I was sure the news wouldn't be good.

But somehow someway I still have a growing baby inside me.  Previously they were somewhat concerned that the baby was measuring small at my last US but today the baby was measuring big and they moved my due date up to June 27, which is the date I initially thought it was.  And the baby had a good, strong HB of 180.  Thank goodness!!

However, I am still spotting bright red and I have no answers as to what is causing it.  My doctor said my lack of cramping is a good sign and is confident that everything will be ok.  I have another US scheduled in 4 weeks, which will also be the start of the 2nd tri, so fingers crossed I can make it there without anymore complications!!

  • Oh man!  How weird that you are having the bleeding, but great that you have such a strong HB and a big baby in there!  4 weeks takes forever!  I'm down to 2 week appts and even 2 weeks is forever.  Hang in there and KUP!

  • Glad to hear everything is going OK (except the bleeding part).  If it keeps up, don't be afraid to see a specialist for a second opinion.
  • I'm sorry that you're having to go through all of this this time around, Kathy.  I am sure it is stressful holding your breath and hoping that the baby continues to grow.  Sending lots of sticky, healthy baby vibes your way!
  • I'm happy to hear about baby growing strong, sorry to hear about the spotting. Some said they had spotting all throughout pregnancy and it always gets brighter when period is normally due, this could be why some goes thru pregnancy not knowing they are pregnant until late bec they still get their "period." Did you do anything that might have irritated your cervix prior to your bright red spotting? I know I had a scare one time after a bowel movement that I admittedly strained on because of frustration lol I was constipating and got so frustrated I forced it out lmao (at the time I was not laughing but freaking out bec of the bright blood after peeing). It could be also straining from lifting heavy or after intercourse. Anyways, glad u/s was great.

  • Sorry about the ongoing spotting but I'm glad baby is growing strong. I know this is easier said than done, but just relax and let your body do what it's supposed to do...grow a healthy baby :) FWIW, I have a friend who spotted up until 20 weeks and now has a healthy 7-month old girl.

  • OMFG... I can't even handle reading that, so I can't imagine living through it (well, I did for a few weeks).

So glad things are okay though!!!

  • Wow...I can imagine that that would be pretty scary.  Glad the baby has a strong hb!  Beat this kid will be quite the prankster as he/she grows up.
