Clarisonic ?

I know several of you have one of these and swear by it.  I've been breaking out badly for the last 8 or so months, since I went off bcp's.  Two questions... 1, is this what I need to buy:

http://www.amazon.com/Clarisonic-3-Power-Skin-System-White/dp/B001884QDK?SubscriptionId=AKIAJTBLPPTQUZBKY5HQ&tag=wt1-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B001884QDK

And 2, do you use the Clarisonic cleanser too, or do you use your own cleanser?  I've changed cleansers a couple times over this time period, with no improvement, so I'm open to something new, but not entirely sure if I want to use the Clarisonic stuff, or just something else I can get from Walmart.  Thoughts?

Re: Clarisonic ?

  • I use the clarisonic mia.  It's the smaller version:

    http://www.amazon.com/Clarisonic-Sonic-Skin-Cleansing-System/dp/B002VAZINQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1321557527&sr=1-2

I also use my regular face wash, I don't use the face wash that comes with the clarisonic.

I use mine every night for one minute.  I don't even take off my make-up first (except for my eye make-up).  I wet my hands and pump the face wash into my palm. Then I apply it to my dry face.  I wet my clarisonic and then turn it on and use it for one minute.  I follow up with face lotion.

  • So, does it have to be plugged into the wall to use it?

ETA: nevermind, I read about it.  Thanks!

  • Have you tried Aveeno?  They have a great acne foaming wash that is designed more for adults with acne than teenage acne.  Clicky  They also have a moisturizer that I use for spots (otherwise it dries out my whole face).  Clicky too.
  • I have the MIA as well.  I like it, but in retrospect I don't see what all they hype was about.  I use my own face wash too.  I second Julie - I use the Aveeno face wash and moisturizer.
  • I got some facewash from the dermatologist a little over a month ago.  I use it at least once, usually twice, every single day, and if I only use it once, then I use something else that also has salicylic acid in it.  My face just seems to be getting worse.  I feel like I'm 15 again, seriously.

I may go and get the Aveeno though - I read on another board some good things about it.  Maybe I should wash one half with one, and the other half with the other, and see which works best.

  • If you just got off BCPs, then it's probably hormonal acne.  Not that I'm an expert or anything.  But, when I stopped taking BCPs a couple of years ago, my face broke out really bad.  It stayed like that for several months.  I tried a few different face washes and I feel like it made my skin worse. So, I picked one and stuck to it.  I still break out around AF time, but not near as bad as I did right before I stopped BCPs.

Regarding the Clarisonic:  My face honestly feels smoother.  I'm not going to say it miraculously took away all the acne or anything like that, but if I get lazy and stop using it for a week or so and then start using it again, I can tell that I started using it again.  Just my .02.

  • Yes, I am positive that it's hormonal... but I have got to try something.  Each time I've used a new cleanser, I've used it for at least 2 months before giving up on it and trying something new.  I think I'm at about 5 weeks with this newest stuff from the derm ($35 for one bottle, ouch), and I really feel like my face is even worse with it!
  • While I was in the throes of wedding planning, my skin was horrible. Worse than it's been since high school, probably. I started using this line. I bought the kit at Sephora. It comes in larger sizes too, and there's now a mask and spot treatment that they didn't have when I was using it. I'd like to go back to it because it worked so well for me, but it's a little on the pricey side (for me), plus my skin has been a lot better than the wedding. Anyway, I liked it.
  • Could it be that you are washing your face too much with to harsh of chemicals?  I have sensitive skin, and ONLY use Cedaphil Gentle face wash.  I find if I use anything with the saylic acid (or however you spell it), it dries out my face to much, and then I get more acne.

I've been debating on getting the Clarisonic.  I have the monthly pass with facelogic, and they give a 20% discount on all their products if you do.  Including the Clarisonic.  I need to compare prices, but I keep leaning more and more towards getting one.

I use Cetaphil also.. but! my face gets bored with cleansers I like to think.. so when one isn't working well.. i switch.  one of my favorites is the hempz facial cleaner. its very clarifying.. without over drying (i too have that pesky adult breakout problem, but then get dried out easily too!).

I'm a member on birchbox, so i can try out new face/hair/makeup products.. if i get any awesome face stuff, I'll LYK.   i just got befine night moisturizer, and i'm loving it (in my most recent birchbox). :D

  • I don't have a clarisonic, but I used Mary Kay Timewise and bliss face products and have a lot of success with them.
