What age- kid spending the night at friends house?

What age would you let your child spend the night at a friend's house?

Elsie and her BFF have been talking about this lately.  I don't know if I am ready and don't really know the age that kids are good with being away from home overnight other than family members houses (E loves going to grandma's and my BIL/SIL house to spend the night).

Thanks!

  • Madison has spent the night at our old neighbors' house twice.  She has also spent the night at another friend's house once.  She did great all 3 times.  We just made sure we were home and available to go get her if she needed to be picked up for any reason.  We have also had friends stay here before.

  • Peyton and her BFF started last year at 5.

  • K has spent the night at my brothers with my neice at age 3.  But I wouldn't do friends until she's a little older, or at least unless I know the parents decently well.
  • Mine was 5 in August & I would not let him stay at a friend's house for the night, I think he would be nervous. With his cousins, yes, but he has not done it yet. He is a more shy/reserved kid, I imagine some kids his age would be totally fine.

I think right around 5 (ish) is when kids are getting to be ready.

  • Well, since Maren doesn't sleep in her own bedroom and still gets up in the middle of the night, we won't allow it for quite sometime. I would get she will have to be 7, as she is almost 6 and no where near ready.

This for both of mine...they want to sleep in the same bed together most of the time because something has 'scared' them that day.  LOL!  I think they would both ask to do it and want to do it and then I'd get a call at 3 a.m. to come pick my crying child up.  :)
