NSOR - is this a craigslist scam?

So I have a pretty expensive piece of furniture listed on craigslist.  A guy emailed  me last night and said "are [furniture] still available, can see tomorrow evening, send address to 555-555-5555 thanks [person]"

I assumed it was a scam and emailed back "they are still available.  cahs only, local pick up.  can you do Saturday (any time) instead of tomorrow?"

He said 6:30 Saturday would work.  then sent another email asking me to text my address to him.

I don't have that much experience selling on craigslist, but the other people I've dealt with have had a question or two, asked to negotiate price, something.  He's just very insistent on me texting him my address.  Do you think it's safe?  I'm trying to get my dad to come over when he'll be there, and the furniture is in the detatched garage so he won't be in my house.  I can have my 115 lb dog on a leash out there with me too.  thoughts?  Am I just paranoid?

  • It sounds like he wants to see it, this is always what I've done, more or less.  I'd for sure have your dad there though.  Depending on what the furniture is, maybe he wants to refinish it and doesn't care about the condition, age, etc.

  • Sounds like you are just being paranoid. This person does need to know your address in order to see/buy/pick up the furniture, yes? And if he doesn't care about wasting a few minutes out of his day, any questions he may possibly have would be better answered by him actually seeing the furniture as opposed to just trusting your word. I guess I just don't see where this might seem shady.

  • I think I'm just paranoid.  I have a friend's DH lined up to be there if my dad can't.  Thanks!

  • FYI a craigslist scam is usually along the lines of:

"I want to buy this piece but can't some to see it.  Please give me your banking info to wire the money and I will send a moving company to get it"

I've gotten a few of those too, but I knew they were scams.  I guess this one was just different than what I'm used to, so it put me a little on edge (even though it wasn't warranted)

  • It sounds legit - BUT if you are getting a weird vibe I'd listen to it and ignore his emails

My dad and stepmom are going to come over for dinner, so I'll have them there.  I'm sure it's fine.  My mom *might* have made me an overly paranoid person in some situations...
