Moms of 2 or more...

This has probably been asked, but... What did you do/ are you planning to do with your older child when you go into labor?  What about during your hospital stay?

Re: Moms of 2 or more...

  • My parents watched Noah for us. We tried to keep in on his same routine like going to daycare and such as best as we could. While i was in labor he was with just my dad so my mom could be at the hospital with me. After Noah got out of daycare my mom would bring him up to visit us in the hospital. I think he did fine because he was so young i don't think he really realized what was going on. He was probably just more excited to stay at grandma and papas house even more.

  • I'm going to ask MIL or my mother to take Alex when labor gets going. Depending on when that happens, and how long that takes this time. My cousin also offered to help with Alex during that time. We thankfully have lots of family around. After LO arrives, if everything is going smoothly this time around, H will probably just go home with Alex and take care of things at the house, like the pets, etc.

  • Since we went to the hospital around 9 pm or so, my sister came and spent the night with Kellen so we could put him to bed and keep him in his routine for the night. Then, she brought him to the hospital the next morning since my parents were already up there. My dad actually took vacation so that he could stay with Kellen during the day. He spent the next 2 nights with my parents and my dad brought him to the hospital at least twice a day to visit with DH, Tessa, and I.
  • As of now, our plan is for my parents/sister to watch Mads while I'm laboring in the hospital (& DH is with me) & then have them bring her to the hospital once the baby is here.  Then DH will go home with Mads & watch her while I stay in the hospital with the baby, and they'll come to visit until we can go home.  (My parents/sister have offered to watch Mads for short stretches too, so that DH & I can still have some time alone with the baby.

I'd love to have DH there with us the whole time, but know it's going to be a major change for Mads & want to keep things somewhat consistent/routine for her at the same time. I think having DH home for the most part will help with that.

  • I had a scheduled c/s so we knew when I was going in the hospital.  I was in the hospital for 5 days and it was during teh week so Abby went to daycare during the day so that made things easier.  But, my mom and gma had come up for the birth of the babies.  So MIL kept Abby the night before I had the babies and just took her daycare.  Then at 4:30pm MIL went and picked Abby up and brought her to the hospital to see me and the babies.  Then around 6pm DH took Abby home.  Then my mom and gma went to my house too.  So DH would put Abby to bed every night and then my mom and gma would get her ready for daycare in the morning, then MIL would pick Abby up and take her to daycare. DH spent every night in the hospital with me. And that repeated for Tue- Fri.  Then Saturday Abby just stayed at my MILs.  We came home and got settled in with the babies and then MIL brought Abby home.  Everything worked out really well!
  • My ILs are flying in the day before my c/s to watch Kodi.  I'm also thinking that maybe I would rather DH spend the night at home with Kodi rather than in the hopsital.  I'm kind of looking forward to having some alone time (with the baby of course) since I never ever have time to myself.

  • My aunt watched them when DH and I went to the hospital. DH came home with the kids after I delivered and he stayed home with them. He brought them to the hospita every day for a few hours to visit!
