Surgery Update

I'm pretty sore, but ok. My RE said there was a lot of scar tissue and if he tried to remove it, it would only grow back. He tried to fix what he could, but he couldn't do enough to fix me completely. He said I had a lot of bowel adhesions stuck to the top of my uterus. As far as I know my tubes are still not open since he said our only option to get pregnant was to do IVF.

I'm a little sad about this, but I know it's only a small step to the big picture. What made me sad was hearing DH tell his mother, "she can't get pregnant naturally."

So, this all happened because of my surgery last year because I got pregnant twice before all of this happened. It fixed one problem, but caused another.

I'll have a follow-up after Thanksgiving to go over all of the details and get a plan for the IVF. I'm glad I have a plan now.

Thank you all for all of your good thoughts and prayers. You have been a huge support for me over the past 2 years.

  • I'm so sorry you didn't get better news.  But glad you didn't have any complications like a bowel perforation & that this isn't the end of your TTC journey.  Many continued prayers that you'll be holding your baby in your arms very soon.

  • It is great to hear that you can do IVF! I was worried that it would be worse (I have a friend with the same type of history who wasn't able to carry her children).  I'm just sorry it took this long to figure out what your options are and that you had to go through so much heartache.

Here's to a better 2012, hopefully a baby by the end of the year for you.

  • I am glad that you came through without any complications and now have some answers.  Sounds like you have a plan now, and sure that has to put your mind at ease somewhat.  Hopefully your journey to bringing a baby home will be be at its end very soon.   You deserve it and will be a wonderful mother.  My thoughts and prayers are with you as you continue down your path.  Please let me know if you need anything.

  • I'm sorry you have to do IVF but I'm so happy you have a plan now. I know one day you will be holding your baby in your arms and all the heartache you had with infertility will be a distant memory.

I had a lap too back in 2009 and had quit a bit of scar tissue including bowel adhesions. My doctor did cut away the scar tissue that was around my uterus since some of it was making one of my fallopian tubes attach to my uterine wall.

Dr. Gibbons.  He is in the Baylor Clinic, now at the Women's Pavilion at Texas Children's.  He is awesome.  Sorry can't make clicky.  http://www.bcm.edu/obgyn/?pmid=11872

We ended up that route too, and it's a rough road, but was better than I thought it would be at the same time. I'm glad to talk about the whole process if you need to. (I spend half my time at work in the medical center too.)
