roll out and cut pillsbury sugar cookies?

i have to make cookies favors for a baby shower this weekend and don't think i will have time to make my normal from scratch cookies. Can i get a tube of pillsbury sugar cookie dough, roll, cut and bake? i bought a really cute cutter for the theme, so i want to stick with cookies.

Re: roll out and cut pillsbury sugar cookies?

  • I've never used the tube kind.  I'd be worried it's too solid. I think they're meant to just cut and bake.  But I don't know...

I've used the Pillsbury cookie packets though.  They're in the baking aisle where the brownies and stuff are.  You just add eggs and oil I think.  They taste pretty good too.

  • Yes, you can definitely do that.

I agree about the tube kind. I think the are meant to be cut from the "roll" into round cookies so I'm not sure if you would be able to actually roll them out with a rolling pin or not. I've also used the Pillsbury cookie packets and they tasted really good and were easy to roll-out and use cookie cutters with.

  • I think you need to let the dough warm up a little bit, then break it up and knead it back together. Then roll it out. There are some instructions on the Pillsbury website about how to use their pre-made dough to make other types of cookies.

  • i wonder if you would need to refrigerate them to harden them back up a litte before you put them in the oven.  i would worry about them holding their shape.  I would definately do a test batch first@!
  • I've made cut cookies from the tube before, it works just fine.
  • my plan was to let the dough soften a bit, roll, cut, put bake in the fridge for a bit and then bake.

And then post pictures of fabulous baby shower cookies!

  • Honestly, I think it's just as fast to whip up a dough.

I used this recipe last time - http://annies-eats.com/2010/04/02/sugar-cookies-revisited/  (for my FB friends - it was the base for the elmo cookies I made last weekend...)

I did not use lemon zest or vanilla bean - just vanilla extract.

I also did not let it sit in the fridge for 2 hours - I put the disk in the freezer for about 15 minutes.

They tasted really good, and looked nice, too.  I baked for 8 minutes, and they stayed nice & soft - but were still sturdy enough for a nice, decorated cookie.

  • hey thanks for this. my recipe also has a two hour fridge time which was stopping me from making from scratch. might give this a shot.
