Homemade Christmas Gifts (opinions please!)

So I took inspiration from our post a few weeks ago about homemade Christmas gifts...with me going part time for school and having tuition to deal with we don't have a lot of money for Christmas this year.  But my classes end early so I WILL have time to make stuff.  Here is my list so far, let me know what you think please!

Women relatives:

Homemade pj/comfy pants! (Flannel is going to be $1.49/yd on Black Friday which will hopefully make each pair less than $3)

Taylor Made Designs Patterns Sew Easy Pajama Pants TM-163

Soy candles poured into frosted stemless wine glasses:

cheap glasses, rubberbands, and frost spray paint

Homemade soy candles in stemless wine glasses

I am also considering making these bags for my younger sister and young SIL (age 13-15ish)

 Messenger Bag

Do you think those are good ideas?  Lame?  Any suggestions?  I'm a bit stumped at what to get the men in our family, thankfully there aren't that many of them!

I'm also planning on baking (I do every year) and making an assortment of cookies and candies which I put in tins and give everyone for Christmas as well!

  • I love the pj pants and the bags! I am not a fan of getting candles b/c I never burn them (just not in the habit of burning them). I have a bunch just sitting around, fortunately most have covers so they at least don't get dust in them.

You could easily make pj pants for the guys too I would think! You'd have to work out the fly though lol but I don't think it would be that hard. Just have to get some manly print/ colors.

I don't have the patience for sewing, so this is awesome to me that you're doing this!

  • I love the pj pants idea!!! Candles will just depend on the people. The purses are cute for the younger girls, too. : ) I need to be more creative....

  • I agree with the others. Candles are iffy. But my mom is making on pants for everyone this year too. Do you have a link for the bag though? My niece would love on of those.

  • I saw those frosted glasses on pinterest and LOVED that idea.  Maybe you can skip the candle and just make nice vases that are frosted.  Then they can use it for anything..a votive candle or flowers.

I love the PJ pants and bag too, so cute!

    Good ideas!

  • I absolutely love the PJ pants!  Even DH would love that (as long as it was a manly print).  Especially making them in flannel.  I wish I could do stuff like that.  I am not a big candle person (in fact some candles give me migraines, but that is mostly smelly candles), however I assume you know that the people who you would make them for are candle people, and those are really pretty (and the wine glasses can handle the heat?).  The bags are great for girls that age!  Enjoy your projects!

  • IMO, PJ pants are not a good idea unless you are a skilled sewer (are you?). Sometimes the fit from those patterns isn't always the best....

I really like the handbag idea though and think that would go over best.

  • A lot of my gifts are handmade and I'll also be making candles this year for many of the women - but I know their appreciation for them - I wouldn't make them if I didn't know they'd be used. There are some fantastic ideas on Pinterest for artwork and stuff if you want to do something else!

  • Very cute ideas, on all counts!!!  :)  As for the guys if you're too stumped on thinking of something to make them (that they'll appreciate) what about a bottle of booze and some lottery tickets?  I know it's not very original but most men seem to like getting that.
