Two resume questions

I am currently applying to grad school and need to submit a copy of my resume.    I graduated from college in Dec. 2004 and had a long string of random jobs after that (managing a restaurant, office work,) including some seasonal work that only last for about six months each, before starting the job I currently have.  I also attended another grad program for six month before realizing it did not make sense financially.

I have been in my current position for about 2 1/2 years (mid-2009) and see this as a long-term career.  The program will directly apply to my current field and I will continue working while completing my degree. Should I include all of those jobs and the grad school on my resume, giving each just a line with no real description?  Or would it be better to only go back three to four years?

Also, does anyone know of any sites/message boards that where you can post your resume and people can critique them?  Any chance that exists??  It seems that no one I know if good with writing resumes...the career center at my college wrote the most generic resume ever and my boss thinks that objective are still the way to go...  I'm pretty sure my resume is bland and some harsh reviews might be helpful :)

Re: Two resume questions

  • I'm tempted to say just keep the current job on there.

You can post here and someone will gladly critique it. Or you can PM someone and they'll look at it that way.

  • Thanks for the advice!  Maybe I will do one version each way and post it here.  I feel like every other part of my application is great except the resume part so I appreciate the help.

  • I agree with the PP, just list your current position. You want to tailor your resume for the grad program you're applying for - just like you would for a job.
