GM SUV's, Crossovers

What are some of the smaller GM SUV's or Crossovers that get good gas mileage?

Re: GM SUV's, Crossovers

  • New or used? I love my Saturn Vue. It gets about 25 mpg. It has 90,000 miles on it and I've never had to do anything other than standard maintenance and tires (knock on wood). I do wish I had something bigger though now that I have a kid. If I was going to get something right now, I'd probably get a Chevy Traverse or a Buick Enclave.

I really like the Saturn Outlook, but my DH says absolutely not since they are no longer made. Sad

  • We tested the enclave and it's pretty nice. My favorite part was that the 2nd row seats (if you get capt. chairs) can be moved independently and provide a lot of room for the driver, especially if you have a RF car seat in them. Ultimately, we decided not to go with the Enclave, but it was one of our favorites that we tested.

Are you stuck on buying a GM vehicle or open to other suggestions? We tested a ton of SUV's from Feb-June when we finally broke down and bought ours.

  • DH gets a really good deal on GM's and we're not sure we're in the market yet, but my van sucks a$$ on gas and needs new tires, so we're exploring options before we invest more into the van since it already has 50K miles on it.

Got it. I was going to suggest the Volvo XC60 if you were open to oher brands. We had one for a bit while we were between cars (we had a new XC90 that was totalled in the hail storm) and it was a great drive. It's a smaller SUV, but there's a lot of room for storage and it has awesome car-like pickup.

  • We almost bought a Traverse that had 4 captain's chairs and then the 3rd row bench (so it was easy to get in and out like a van), but it sucked a$$ on gas! I drove it from Thursday - Monday and got on average 16 MPG. The website has it rated MUCH higher than that.

My van gets 15mpg and DH's Ford F-150 gets 18.  Something's not right with that van.  Lol!

  • What the hell! Most vans get MUCH better than that! I know that you didn't say Ford, but I love my Edge. It has tons more room than any of the other vehicles in its class (and I know because I drove and measured each and every one of them). I really thought when I got a new vehicle that I would go with something else, but ended up going back to the Edge again. My 2008 I had to fill up 2-3 times a week and it was $65 each time. My 2011 has a smaller gas tank and will only hold $45 and I only fill up 2x a week (smaller tank & better mileage is saving me $40+ a week).

And it looks like a badass spaceship, which is also a plus.

  • Its not a GM but I love my Mazda Tribute. Not sure what it gets on gas mileage though, sorry :)

  • I really like the Acadia!

  • We recently purchased a 2011 chevy equinox and I love it. I had an older equinox before but this one gets way better gas mileage.  We looked at several different suv's for the crossover size, the Equinox is by far the largest and has the most size once inside it.   IMO.

    Good luck!

  • Honda Fit.

    just sayin'

When we were on vacation, we rented both a Tahoe and an Acadia.  I loved them both - the Acadia was much smaller, but they (surprisingly) got the same gas mileage.  I didn't think I was going to like the Acadia after having driven the Tahoe (because I love Tahoe's), but I actually really like it.  Loved the backup camera on the rear-view mirror on the Acadia!!!

6.5 inches narrower (inside) than the Edge...and yes, I measured & made the dealership measure. The Equinox did drive nice though...for a 4 cylinder. LOVE the Acadia. If I lived 50 miles closer to my office, that is what I would have.
  • We recently bought an Enclave and I ADORE it.  Our #2 was Acadia.  In our opinion the Enclave was a little fancier then the Acadia.  And surprisingly the Enclave has a bigger trunk than a Tahoe and a Yukon that we also considered.  Not sure how it stacks up to a minivan, but that was definitely not gonna happen in my world.  Good luck!
