Black Friday

Do you go out and shop?  What are your favorite stores to go to?

Re: Black Friday

  • No, I went one year to Toysrus and it was the most insane experience. We were in line at like 3am waiting for the store to open at 5am, and then once you got inside you literally couldn't even move... it was packed... I witness a fight over a Elmo toy and told my SIL I would never do this again.  It's been almost 10 years since that experience and I have never went shopping again.

For a few years I  worked part time at Old Navy.. Black Friday was INSANE... People are just nuts about sales and free giveaways!! Plus, you would be surprise at how many are just so miserable while they shop and just as grumpy when they get to the checkout lane.  If you are going to be miserable just stay home:)

  • I usually go shopping, but not super early with all of the crazies Wink.  I usually go to best buy (for cheap dvd's), macys, sears, the mall and then maybe joann's on the way home!

  •  Last year I went to Toys R Us on Thanksgiving night around 9pm thinking "it won't be that bad".  Yeah.  It was a complete nightmare.  I figured I'd wait in line (which was wrapped outside the store) for a little while and see how fast it went. It seemed to be moving alright for a little while, so after about an hour I reassessed where I was and how much progress I'd made.  I decided to wait it out because I kept falling into the "well, I've already waited X hours, so I might as well just keep waiting" mentality.  I was clearly high on too much turkey from earlier in the day.

By the time I got into the store, they only had one of the items that I had come for which was obviously frustrating.  It was about 11:30pm at this point and I should have just left, but nooooo. I walked around for a little while and ended up finding a few other items that were a good deal, so I stupidly got in line thinking that would move quickly.  Once again... big mistake.

I didn't leave the store until almost 2:00am.  I honestly don't even know what I was thinking, but it was a horrible experience.  I will never do it again. Ick!

  • We always go out later in the day just because the whole family's in town for Thanksgiving. I would never go to Walmart or Toys R us, that sounds like a nightmare! Last year I did go to Kohls though and they had a pretty long line.

I do usually hit Target because they seem to stock their sales items pretty well so that you don't have to show up at 3 AM to get one of the 5 TVs they have in the store...they don't usually run out of things.

This year I want to find DH a new TV for our bedroom, probably at Target.

  • Every year.  it's a tradition for me and my mom to go shopping.  This year we are starting at mid-night since that is when Target opens.  We will hit Target and then Macy's (they open at mid-night too), JC Penny next (opens at 3am), then on to the rest of the mall to shop and have breakfast.

  • We (me and my mom) usually go to the mall and Target, but don't get started until around 10am.  The "early bird" specials usually last until noon, so we're fine.  I usually have most if not all my gifts purchased before Thanksgiving, so we really just go to hang out and people watch.  We were interviewed for the paper one year, and the guy thought it was awesome that we said we came to people watch.  He hadn't heard that one yet.  :)
  • No way am I going, I don't have the patience to wait & I'd probably get upset w/crappy people!

I use to go w/my mom to the mall in Flint all the time around 4/5pm, all the early bird people would be gone & we'd still get to shop & get good deals.

Last year DH & I went shopping in Pittsburgh about 6 or 7pm at night and I still managed to get a nice coat for church for I think 60% off!  (Plus there's no sales tax on clothes in PA!)

  • No deal in the world is good enough to get me out of my house to fight those crowds.  No thanks!

  • I went out by myself last year and had the best time... I wasn't looking for anything in particular and had no expectations.  I just went out with the idea that as soon as it wasn't fun anymore, I'd come home (I think that was the key!).  I got some pretty good deals at Joann Fabric, JCPenney and Target.  I'm planning on going out again this year... hopefully it will be fun again!
