Im back with a ?

for those of you that gave birth naturally how long did it take you to progress?

I am 40 weeks today and my c-section for last night was cancelled because she flipped and is no longer breech and I was not a candidate for an induction because I am not dilated at all and only 50% effaced.

I am glad she flipped on her own and I know that everything happens for a reason. But I cant help but feeling depressed this morning. I was mentally prepared for it to all go down yesterday and have a baby in my arms this morning.

Everything has been taken care of- H was on vacation for the next two weeks but is going to go back in on monday as to not waste his days, the dog was at the sitters, the house was cleaned, our bags were packed, we were SO ready! And now I have up to another 2 weeks to go. (Which would have been totally normal and acceptable if the doc hadnt told me either way I would have a baby last night).

Please tell me it will be sooner rather than later! (because I dont have another doctors appt until nov 28th!)

  • It's going to be different for everyone. I had DD about a week early, but at my appointment 2 days before I had her, I wasn't dilated or effaced. As I was leaving, the doctor said "I'll see you next week." I think that the fact that she flipped might be a good sign that she's getting ready, so hopefully you'll get to meet her sooner rather than later.
  • Exactly...it's different for everyone.

I was just like you....50% effaced and not dilated at all at my 40 week appt. and 3 days later my water broke.

Reality...you could stay just the way you are for another 2 weeks at the most. They won't let you go any farther than 42 weeks. Mentally prepare yourself for that and if something happens sooner it will be a pleasant surprise. Hopefully something happens for you sooner though!

  • When I had T she came 10 days early. I went in Friday for an exam and was 0 for dilation and 0 for effaced. I went back Tuesday and was 50% effaced and approaching 5 cm dilated. She was born the next day at 1:13. So for me it happened really fast.

  • Huge hugs kate!!!!  I can only imagine what you are feeling.  My final dr appointment I had shown no progress.  A was born 4 days late. I started having contractions the night before and was only 1cm when I got to hospital-I wasn't progressing that quickly (even on pitocin)while there and was leaking fluid.  They broke my water, continued the pitocin  and he was here a few hours later!

Hopefully she will arrive in the next few days!!!

  • My story wont help, I had to  have a c-section because I wasn't a candidate for induction.. 10 days past my DD.

Everyone is different.  You could go into labor on your own tonight!!  Stay positive!

  • First of all, I hope by the time you read this you are in labor. I've had 3 natural births. 1st- daughter came on due date (40 weeks). I started contractions the night before, but water never broke on it's own. OB broke water and had to use pitosin (spelling?). 2nd- water broke at 38 weeks- no contractions, no dialation, pitosin again. 3rd- Due date came and went- no real progression- dialated but no contractions, OB broke water 2 days later, another long labor.  Others have said that they felt nothing and then all of a sudden had a fast labor. I think going past the due date is the hardest because you have images of your baby in your arms by that point. Like, pp said, I think it's great that your LO turned on her own. Best wishes and again I'm hoping your next post is a birth announcement!

  • i went from 0% effaced and no dilation on tuesday at my dr appointment (it was like that for a month) to 3cm dilated and 100% effaced on Thursday. i started menstral  like cramping at 3:30 am and finally couldnt take it anymore at 9:00 and called the dr. i only received a c-section because after 7 hours i had no progress after my water breaking and pitocin. i was stuck at 4cm and he though maybe the baby was in distress.

  • ditto that everyone progresses differently.  I was induced at exactly 40 weeks because my drs thought A was nearing the 10 lb mark (they do automatic C's at 10 lbs and I didn't want one). I was lucky that I had a very successful induction and progressed well on the pitocin.  I was holding my baby in 8 hrs from start to finish.

Sending you lots of labor dust that baby comes soon!
