Target Shoppers a question

Do any of you have the target debit or credit card?  I know you can save like 5% on your entire purchase if you use these cards so thats kinda a good deal.  But what are the negatives to these cards?  Why did you pick the cc over the debit or visa versa?  We shop at Target for EVERYTHING groceries included, so I am really considering one of these cards.

Security wise is one better than the other?

Thanks

Re: Target Shoppers a question

  • We have the debit card. My only complaint is that I'm psycho when it comes to our budget. We use debit for everything and when you use your debit card it takes 2-3 days for it to actually show up! I need it to be there instantly. I have to go home and enter it right away otherwise I forget and I feel like I screwed up our budget. (never have but I have a weird anxiety about it) That's slightly annoying but we save about $20 a month so for someone with normal reactions it would be great! :-)  No fees or anything. It's really a pretty good deal. We haven't had it long but I like it.

We didn't do the credit card because we're paying off our credit cards then shredding them. We're doing what we can to live in cash only.

  • I have the credit card.  I've had it for years, before they even offered a debit card or 5% off discount.  We opened it years ago when we moved in together and bought a bunch of furniture to assemble at the store, and received a discount.

I LOVE the red card.  I only use it at Target, even though it's a regular Visa and could use it at other places.  I go to Target every Sunday to do our grocery shopping, and sometimes I'll go again during the week for various reasons.  I factor the 5% discount in to figure out that things are usually cheaper, for that reason alone.  I also use the Totally Target website to catch bigger deals and coupons.

  • I have the debit card. It was a no brainer for me --- comes directly out of our checking account which is what I would be using anyways since we don't use credit cards. No credit line. No fees. Always a 5% discount and always free shipping on the website. Why wouldn't I do that? :) I also use the Pinpoint card at merchants in town that accept it. Same thing --- debit straight from my checking account, perk points and discounts at Merchants that I use all the time anyways :)

  • have the credit card, pay it off every month... if you are inclined to overbuy if you had a credit card, I would use a debit so you don't incur cc debt

I tie it on to my school of choice and they get so much back every year.

I make payments at the customer service desk.

If you fill a prescription use your t card and then once you get 5 you get an extra 5% off shopping ticket for one day.

  • I have a target Visa, I have it only for the 5% and I use it at Target only.  I think its worth it if and only if, you shop there a lot and PAY it OFF monthly.  :)  Also, I like they give back from my purchases to the school of our choice. :)
  • I have the debit card. It comes right out of your checking account, so there's no worries about interest or anything.  It does suck that it takes a few days to show up on your online statement, so make sure you have a rough idea of how much you've spent.  Be sure to set it up so they donate 1% to the K-12 school of your choice too!  If you're spending the money there anyway, you may as well have them help a worthy cause.
