Thanks so much for your advice in my other thread (and thanks to CurlyGirl too)! I was wondering if you'd have any recommendations on what area we should stay in when we're in San Diego. I'm hoping to book on Priceline or Hotwire and get a good deal, but I'm not sure which areas to focus on. Thanks in advance!

  • I'm not crystal, but I wanted to jump in and say that the Bacara in Santa Barbara is stunning!  Extra points if you have a spa treatment!

Thanks so much! I was actually going to ask you for a rec for there. I think we're going to do one night in the LA/Santa Monica area to break up the drive from SD to SB. Do you have any recommendations for that area?

  • What is your price range? If you wanna go super inexpensive, Hotel Circle in San Diego has some great deals and is kind of central. If you wanna go like luxury... paradise point... hands down... is one of the most awesome places ever....

In Santa Monica... there's lots of cutesie places on the beach but they are pricey... check out what is in your price range and let me know before you book. I can comment on neighborhoods and location but dont have any specific hotel recommendation. If you stay along up like between the major cities it might be cheaper, like Pacific Palisades instead of Santa Monica or Malibu.... it's beautiful all the way up. :)

We're trying to keep it around $200/night or less, since we have 14 nights to stay. I'm trying to use Priceline and Hotwire as much as possible, to get the most bang for our buck, so to speak. I had some luck with some of the more northern towns (4 star hotel in SF for $137 a night -- that one shocked me!). but SoCal is proving to be a bit more difficult.

  • I can say nothing about CA b/c I have never been, but have you checked out Kayak.com when searching for prices? I can usually find good prices there and it compares all of the different sites.

Your trip sounds awesome... I am super jealous :)

Thanks Krissy! That's a really good thought, actually. I always use Kayak for flights, but often forget about it for hotels, etc... I'll check it out!

See if you can find any deals online for this resort in San Diego... it's awesome.

In terms of Santa Monica... again, I dont know of anything specific... but keep searching kayak and what not. You're going in high season so it's hard to find good deals. My thought is it's probably better to stay at a less star hotel if it is right on the beach... If it is on the beach or really close to the beach, there's nothing like getting up in the morning and walking along the beach in your sweats while it's still cool outside or having the ability to spend the day on the beach and having your hotel close by. Huntington Beach and Seal Beach are also nice... hmmm... going up towards LA.... Ohhh Redondo or Manhattan Beach are also really nice areas. Redondo Beach is fun, they have a cool pier area... then you hit Marina Del Rey, then Venice, then Santa Monica, then Pacific Palisades... you might find better deals in the Redondo or Pacific Palisades area than in actual Santa Monica which is very pricey. Let me know what other help you need. :)
