Stocking Monogram Poll

For some reason I can't get the poll feature to work, but...

Last year we got DD a stocking. This year I've finally convinced DH that we need new ones. Mostly him. His is very old. I thought it would be nice to have matching ones. So, the big question is do we put First names or do we put Mommy and Daddy. I don't know, DH at first liked first names but now doesn't care. My mom says it should be mommy and daddy since Xmas is about the kiddos and that's who we "are" now. What do you ladies think?

Re: Stocking Monogram Poll

  • I would say to put mommy and daddy.
  • I've got a "special snowflake" answer- I wouldn't put names on either of yours- just DD's. We have stockings that have designs that fit us (I've got Santa and DH is a moose and I think James' has animals) so we didn't need monogramming. I forget what my parents had now, but if I saw them, I'd know in an instant who's is who's.

But, if you want a straight answer, yeah, Mom & Dad or Mommy & Daddy would be best. (No Mama and Dada though- they outgrow that pretty quick and you don't want your 15 year old calling you Mama!)

  • Or how about Queen and King?  :)

I'd probably do Mommy and Daddy.

  • Our stockings all have our first names on them. Helen knows we have have real names besides Mommy and Daddy (and she knows what they are, too). I am still a person outside of being a mom; I like my stocking to have my own name on it.

Helen, of her own accord, will sometimes call me and DH Queen and King. It's only logical, since she's the princess!

Side note, I'm 27 and call my mom "Momma"

  • Ours say our first name on them.

  • Our stockings were made by my gram so they have our first names on them, as do my parents... I didn't think anything about it because I always knew that my parents filled their stockings for each other so it would be weird if it had said mommy and daddy and the gifts were from their spouse... plus they were made before they had kids so that wouldn't have worked! I have had my stocking since I was born and Josh received his the first Christmas he spent with my family.  Jack and Keaghan also have stockings made by my grandmother with their names on them and I get teary eyed every time I see them and think about how long they are going to last!

  • MIL knit DH's long long ago and she knit mine a few years before we got married.  Then she knit DD's the year I was pregnant.  They are all different so that is how we know the difference.

I think if you are going to monogram, to tell them apart, then use your names.

  • We waited until we had Eli to get nice stockings. I went back and forth on Mom and Dad vs our names. In the end I decided to get our names. Not really sure why, I think either is fine!

    Yes

This will be me.  While Christmas is more about the kids, I think it's good to keep using our real names.

  • We do Christmas at the ILs so I don't have stockings for us. My ILs ordered DD a stocking this year and DH & SIL have theirs from childhood... I get a plastic bag... which is fine with me since I don't need a stocking, but kind of funny at the same time.
  • Thanks all!

Erika - Your snow flake answer is totally how I grew up and how things are now. We just decided we wanted matching ones Caroline has the PB classic red and white and is monogrammed. Wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

The more I think about it I'm more swayed to do Mom and Dad. I like thinking ahead 30 years from now and just having our two stockings there and seeing Mom and Dad, but now DH is saying just put our names. Since I'm wishy washy I think he'll win.

Mesa- do you want mine? It's only 4 years old. You can bring it with you and make them feel bad for the plastic bag :P

  • My parents' always had their names on it; our old ones have our names on them.   We just got some new stockings though that are knit and all different, so I don't think we'll monogram them.
