giving notice

I start my new job 12/12 and I'm so excited. I am a little confused about giving notice though. I would usually give notice this Friday (2 weeks), but the office is closed for Thanksgiving.

Would it still be acceptable to give notice next Monday? I am sort of afraid that they might just escort me out of the building and fire me once I give notice. They've done it before.

Re: giving notice

  • Why can't you give notice tomorrow?

  • I'd also give notice on Wednesday.
  • I'd do it Wednesday afternoon or Monday morning, depending how much better/worse it would make my Thanksgiving. Either way they're getting two weeks' notice.

  • I'd give notice Wednesday.  If you give notice Monday they may want you to work that next Monday - I gave notice on a Monday and they said two weeks would be the following Monday - but I told them that next friday would be the last day.

Plus you'll feel a weight lifted off your shoulders once you give notice.  At least that's how it was for me!

  • Eek! I dont know what state you work in, but here in California its completely illegal for an employer to fire you if youve already given notice. big lawsuits could errupt from that. Check your local laws if they attempt to do that. giving notice sucks, but once you do you can look forward to your new job!
