Chocolate Chip Cookies

I'm so proud of myself. I successfully made chocolate chip cookies here in Spain! I'm thankful that it's socially acceptable to eat cookies (and cake, and pie - I love this country!) for breakfast because these go very well with coffee.

This is the first time since leaving North America four years ago that I've made cookies. I'm so stupidly happy!

Re: Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • Cookies are absolutely worth getting excited about. Glad you enjoyed them!
  • Hurray!! Baking in another country is so difficult, I can totally understand your excitement.

  • Impressive!  I had one too many baking in a foreign language mishaps to understand why this is a cause for celebration.

I am fully enjoying being able to tell the difference between flavored salts, baking powder/soda and the availabilty of ingredients.  DH says I'm a much better baker in English.

  • Yay! That sounds awesome! I'm waiting for H to get back with croissants for breakfast and all I'm thinking is that I would rather be eating a cookie..or pizza. hmmm...

I have to look specific ingredients up on word reference before going to the supermarket. I'm just proud because it seems like I got the sugar right - no American style brown sugar available here! Also, it's the first time I've ever weighed ingredients.

Now, if I can just figure out how to bake today's turkey. I don't know how much it weighed pre-filling and I don't know how long to roast it for!

  • Yummy! Eat an extra cookie for all of us.

  • This thread makes me hungry! Your cookies sound good, and so does the croissant someone talked about.

I guess I need to get up pretty soon so I can go to IHOP! (Sitting in bed with laptop - FH is still asleep)

I didn't. I used azucar moreno and weighed it out.

  • Well now I want a cookie lol. I was born and raised in Georgia and am moving to England. I can tell you right now that I am going to have to make myself tons of Sweet Tea! I was even considering bringing a sweet tea maker with me : )

Fortunately I'm moving to an English speaking country so I don't have to worry about not being able to read my ingredients. The thing that will mess me up will probably be the actual cooking of the food. I saw a recipe that said "Cook on gas mark x" and was like "Whats  gas mark?" XD

  • You'll figure it out pretty quickly! You should see my cookbooks - all marked up with F to C conversions from my time in Canada and now ingredient translations for life here in Spain.
  • Yeah I love them...I have made them 4 times since moving here 6 months ago.  I usually make them when we have guests from the States.  My Costco sized bag of chocolate chips is almost gone (I also made Chocolate Chip Zuchinni/Banana Chocolate Chip bread).

I found some at the Deli Shop here in Barcelona.  Also there is a Taste of America store here, I haven't been there though (you can order on-line).

I was in London last month so I bought 3 (there only 500g each) bags that should last me awhile.
