Re: Heidelberg

  • We visit now and then.  I like it - a lovely city!  When would you be there?

I'm sure there are lots of great places to eat there, by the way, but our favorite is Vetters.  They brew their own (great) beer and have yummy German food to boot.

I am  planning Dec 9th or 10th, looks like they have a nice Xmas market?

  • we've been, but it was summertime. The thing I remember most clearly is the castle - it was beeeeauuutiful!  I think, unless I'm confusing it with another castle, it's up on a hill and you climb up a path to get there. It was really hot when we did it, but totally worth it. have fun!

  • I have only been for work and didn't get to see that much but I loved it, so pretty. They took us to the Auto&technik Museum there and it was so much fun. You could get into a Concorde, drool over the Maybach collection etc

If you have a chance definitely go.

  • We went in June 2010 and absolutely loved it. The Aldstadt is lovely. There was small but nice market near the cathedral. The castle is okay but the views are amazing. You can take cruises on the river as well. I'll send you a private message with a link to some pictures on my blog.
Whilst there, we did a day trip to Baden Baden, where we went on a cool trail and saw a waterfalls. I'd highly recommend that day trip too--even if you don't enjoy hiking or it's too cold, there are some nice trips up the mountains you can take (cable car or similar) and also the spas. I also had a particularly nice spaghetti-eis. Nom nom nom...
Definitely a place I'd go again, and I highly recommend it.

They do have a nice little Christmas Market.  Like a lot of towns, Heidelberg's Market is not all in one place, so you can stroll around the Altstadt and enjoy it bit by bit.  By all means, try the Gl?hwein!!! It will help keep you warm. :)
