Anyone have a birthday Thanksgiving week?

For some reason, I thought I might have this baby on time, or at least a little early, but here I am - 40 weeks and 1 day.  Now, I am dreading this week b/c now any date from the 21st to the 28th will guarantee a bday ON turkey day at least every 7 years.

Anyone have a T-day birthday and not hate it?  :-/  My doc talked about induction, previously, but I wanted to avoid it.  Now, i am not sure - maybe I should have done it end of last week to avoid her having a holiday birthday.  Please tell me i am thinking too much into it.  :-)

    You definitely are over-thinking it.

My cousin loved the years when his birthday was on Thanksgiving.  Of course, this happened all of once when he in an age bracket for it to matter, the year he turned 9.  That year he wore a paper crown all day & loved that the whole family was together for his birthday (he got a real party on a different day).  The year he hit 16, it was just another day.  His parents took him & his friends to laser tag or something like that a few days earlier & that was his big birthday celebration.  24, no idea what he did, our Moms were not speaking by that time.  This year he'll be 31 & will be having a grand old time tailgating next to Reed arena.

  • Yep, my birthday was yesterday. Honestly I cannot imagine a better time to have a birthday.  I always tell people that it's my birthday that kicks off the holiday season. I loved having the week off of school. I loved getting my Aggie ring and dunking it on my 22nd birthday.  Having elephant walk on my b-day during college.  I also use it as the excuse to put up my tree a bit early each year.  Don't worry, she will love it!
  • My sister is having a c/s the day before so we've recently talked about this......

My DD's birthday is Thanksgiving Day this year and she couldn't be more thrilled. Any mention of Thanksgiving and she is excited to tell anyone it's also HER birthday. She's requested a turkey cake (which reminds me, I need to post about that) and we'll celebrate with extra friends and family (friend party will be separate).

BTW, it may depend on the year and actual date, but DD was born the day before Thanksgiving 2004 and her birthday falls on Thanksgiving Day every 6 years thanks to Leap Year. ;)

Aside from not being in school on her bday to celebrate with her class, there's really been no downside for DD. We usually do her party the weekend before...this year we're doing it later. The only downside from my POV is that it kind of stinks to try to come up with separate bday gifts so close to Christmas, and most gifts clumped within a few weeks inatrad of spread out...but that's more about the time of year than anything to do with Thanksgiving.

So don't worry! And good luck!!

P.s. with DD born the day before i went home from hospital the next day. The daybafter that we did Thanksgiving and I was more than happy to let DH and my mom make the whole meal. ;)

  • mine is today and it never bothered me. we always did my party the weekend before or after the holiday, and I just knew some friends might be out of town and not able to make it. My mom would usually have a  b'day cake on Thanksgiving to celebrate with the family that was over. Like KelleyA, I always felt like my birthday officially kicked off the holiday season for me.

Yes - I have already informed everyone that I will not be doing ANYTHING for T-day meal, and if they want it - they will need to make it or order it!  lol.

  • If you have her today she won't ever have a Thanksgiving birthday. It's too early.  Today is DH's birthday it's the only reason I know it never falls as Thanksgiving day.

  • Wow, I didn't realize you were so close.  Congrats and good luck!

I have a good friend with a birthday that falls on Black Friday this year... and she works for a major retailer....  taking the day off is not an option.  She's not so happy about that this year, but she actually does like her birthday close to Thanksgiving.  You will always have a huge celebration with all your family! :)

  • my birthday is the 29th. I know you won't make it that long, but I've never had a Thanksgiving birthday. I have had a birthday on Tday week tho. It was a non issue. My college roommate's bday is tomorrow and she never cares either.

It's different than having a Christmas birthday because kids born around Christmas miss the whole fun of having presents 2x a year, but that rarely effects kids whose birthdays are around other holidays. Definitely over thinking :)

  • If it makes you feel any better my birthday is on Christmas Eve...every year

    This made me laugh.

  • my sister's birthday was yesterday. her due date was the 22nd (thanksgiving day that year), but my mom's ob didn't want to work on thanksgiving, so she was born early.

she's never minded that it was so close because she usually got to see more family that way, and sometimes she was out of school for the holiday break.

bil's b-day is the 30th and he's never seemed to mind either.

Mine is today too. And Nov 21 is the last day in Nov to not have a birthday on Thanksgiving. It can be the day before, but never on the same day. That doesn't mean we didn't lump together my family birthday celebration with Thanksgiving, but in college it made it easier.

My mom usually did my parties the week before Thanksgiving and we always had a good turnout. I like having a birthday this time of year. And my birthday is exactly one month after my mom's birthday so it is kinda neat.

I just can't get over that she had me and still hosted Thanksgiving that year at our house. Oh, and she said she had all of the Christmas presents purchased and wrapped before I was born. Wow!
