Why are some ppl so quick to try and get others in trouble??

So listen to this..I'm having a terrible start to the morning. I was eating my cereal at my desk (which I do every morning.. and everyone here does) and the HR Director walked by, stopped and said hello to me.. and the next thing I know the HR Mgr calls me into her office and asks me to shut the door.  She reprimands me for doing eating cereal. Seriously? Wtf? I said I didn't realize I wasn't 'allowed' to eat breakfast, especially considering EVERYONE here does.. except they eat eggs, bacon and bagels at their desk.. I had cereal for god sakes.  She said she knows and we ARE allowed, but the HR Director doesn't like it..  Have you ever heard of something so petty in your entire life? If she had a problem with it, why didn't she just politely say it then and there.. and not run and tell the HR Mgr to tell me??

THEN, the Mgr tells me in addition to that, someone told on me last week for a mistake I made, which btw I caught and fixed right away and it wasn't the end of the world. Why are some people so freakin quick to get other people in trouble? I just don't get it. Like I need any more stress in my life right now. Happy effing monday to me.  Okay, vent over... thanks I feel better now.

  • I find that people who do this are often miserable themselves and enjoy hurting others.  Bask in the knowledge that you're not this type of person and that means you're better off in the long run than they are.  I know it sucks now though.  Go ahead and dream and shoving that cereal in her stupid face!  ((hugs))

  • I hate it too!  There are TONS of people that do that where I work. It sucks.

They see us rollin'...they be hatin'.
  • That's crap.

I would keep eating cereal at your desk if it's not against the rules.

She doesn't like it? That's her problem. Until they make it against company policy to eat at your desk, she doesn't have a leg to stand on.

    I'm annoyed for you!

  • Unless the HR manager can show you a specific policy that you're not allowed to eat food at your desk, I'd keep doing it.

We have a snitch in our area too and she's so annoying. She's new to the team and doesn't quite understand that we're laid back.

  • That is so annoying!  There are a few in my group that are like that.  I don't get it!!

  • While I agree it is annoying, especially when you work hard and probably get to work early so you can start work (and, you might be eating while working at your desk, while other people are socializing and not working), I disagree with the people who say you should keep on eating at your desk.  Your manager told you not to do it.  Specifically called you out on it.  I would find someplace else to eat cereal, whether that means eating someplace else (cafeteria, break room) or eating at home.  Or find something else to eat (a cereal bar, a bagel) that doesn't offend.

Perception really is a huge part of managing your relationship with your boss.  Do you really want him/her to be po'ed about your breakfast?  Something you eat EVERY DAY?  Someday, your boss might have to battle with the Director for your job, and it's up to you if you want them to waste a fight over your "right" to eat cereal, and then when you make a mistake, they are going to battle for you again, only it won't be as successful.

The fact that everyone else is doing it (or worse) should not matter.  You can't control them, you can only control you.

  • About the food, I would be more annoyed that the entire group didn't get talked to. You should not be singled out.

As far as people always trying to get others in trouble...That is my office all the way. Most of the time, if something isn't right, I would rather just discuss and fix it rather than go around pointing fingers. Here...we get the finger pointing and things usually don't get fixed. So annoying!

I agree with this. I know it sucks and they suck but they already told you it was frowned upon. It is not worth it to be in trouble at work because of cereals.
