Hotel in fort benning

Anyone have any decent hotel recs for Fort Benning, GA? That aren't ridiculously expensive?

Also, it's been almost 2 years since I was last down there so I can't remember the road that I'm supposed to stay away from. Victory Drive? I remember everyone saying that's where all the crime is. I'll be going down with the baby so I want to make sure we're safe.

 Thanks ladies!

  • Yeah, you want to stay away from Victory.  We stayed in the La Quinta off Macon Rd.  It wasn't bad.  We have also stayed at the Comfort Suites.  It was pretty nice.  The rooms were a decent size, as well.  It was about 10 min from the gate. Also, check the cabins on post to see if they are available.  They are really nice and worth the couple extra dollars for the privacy.

  • I think VD is the bad area, too, but it's been a few years that I've been there as well.

Have you looked for a hotel in Phenix City? I think there is a Holiday Inn there and they usually have a pretty decent military rate.

  • Don't ask for the mil rate right off the bat.  When they give you the mil rate, it is the approved per diem rate for mil travel.  In the Ft Benning area, as well as many others, that rate is $109.  You can get a far better rate than that with the regular rate.

Good point. When we travel, I always check the price online and then their Mil rate and go with the cheaper one. Sometimes it's cheaper, sometimes it's not.

  • We stayed at LaQuinta, I can't remember the road but it's across from the Peach Tree mall, it wasn't too bad.
