Have you decorated for Christmas?

I've been surprised to see how many people in my neighborhood already have full on lights out, christmas trees up, etc.

Have you started decorating already?

I feel bad for Thanksgiving (like the holiday has feelings) and won't pull out the Christmas stuff until at least Thursday evening.

Re: Have you decorated for Christmas?

  • Nope... not sure when, maybe a bit this afternoon. who knows!
  • This year is way different because we moved.

Our tree is out of storage, and we'll put it up in the next day or two. We're not doing much more decorating than that, and I'm not pulling all of our ornaments out, I'll only put the ones we get this year on the tree. Since we're in a condo, we won't do any outdoor decorating this year.

Normally, we do all of our decorating on the weekend after Thanksgiving.

  • Nope, our neighbors across the street have had a Christmas tree up for weeks though.  It's kind of weird, IMO.  We won't put our tree up for several more weeks because we buy a real tree, there's no way it will last that long.  We might put up the outdoor lights this weekend, but probably not.

this exactly. i'm all for putting the tree up on thanksgiving night, but not before then. i feel like too many people are in such a rush and thanksgiving just gets passed over. i got so annoyed by heb when they were playing christmas music last weekend.

  • Umm, I just put away my Halloween decorations yesterday, so no. :)

I think everyone is getting a jump start on Christmas this year though... the stores are opening earlier, Sunny 99.1 started their Christmas music on Friday.  We are just getting rushed through Thanksgiving this year I guess.  :(

    i know and i can't stand it.

that, combined with this muggy hot weather, DH and I are just in a funk and cant get in the thanksgiving or christmas spirit.

maybe we need to watch Elf.

  • No.  I would probably do it this coming weekend, maybe I would have done some this past weekend...but we're waiting until after C's b-day party.  There just isn't enough room in the house for a tree + people.

In the end, I won't put everything out either.  Just the tree and a few smaller things.  The house ends up crowded and Cooper doesn't leave crap alone, so half of it would be lost or broken.  :-)

  • Kind of. I wrapped the tree in our front yard with lights already but they do not get turned on until after Thanksgiving. I also made an ornament ball wreath that's sitting out on the table waiting to go on the front door. Otherwise I have my fall decorations up.
  • Christmas season starts on the day after Thanksgiving for us. No Christmas music, no decorations, nothing Christmas related until Black Friday. We love Thanksgiving and fall and want to enjoy it as long as possible. Christmas will get plenty of time.

  • we get a fresh tree so we wait until friday after t-day; any earlier and it doesn't last to the new year. we'll be decorating on friday when we get back from black friday shopping/getting the tree. this year we have houseguestprisoners that we're putting to work so hopefully it doesn't take too long like it usually does with just me and beau

eta: i LOVE christmas decorations/music/spirit starting early. i think i'm the only one though.

  • We pulled the boxes out today...so maybe we will start decorating tomorrow!
  • Not yet, but hoping to do it Sunday night.

  • We were planning on doing it last night, but my back ended up bothering me quite a bit so we are going to do it tomorrow night instead.

It's normally our tradition to put it up the day after Thanksgiving, but this year DH leaves town the day after Thanksgiving & won't be back until the week before Christmas.  I don't want to put up the tree without him, so we're putting it up early.

  • Christmas is a free bird that cannot be caged!

I am so put off by the early-Christmas-complainers.  Christmas is such a special time of year, and who the heck "really" decorates for Thanksgiving anyway?   Like with lawn ornaments and house lights? I am no less thankful for the beautiful things in my life if my neighbor has a lit up snowman on the lawn.  Puh-leeeeze.

We can be  thankful for the Christmas spirit.  It doesn't have to be one or the other, a black and white line where holidays are concerned.  Our world is full of things to gripe about. If you choose to gripe about other people's excitement and joy, it's your own damn fault for being annoyed.  You must have a pretty kickass life if THIS is what you choose to get your panties in a wad about.

I hope you aren't the same people who say, "I wish the spirit of Christmas would last all year long".  ; )

I really don't think retailers are putting decor all that much sooner than in previous years.  I remember there being a lot of Christmas decor out in Rice Village before it was even Halloween, when my office was there 2 years ago.  Hobby Lobby, Michael's, Garden Ridge, Joann, etc.  have always put out their Christmas stuff really early and done sales (I assume because they don't want to have to deal with the mad rush of people right after thanksgiving).

  • We put our tree up b/c we knew we probably wouldn't have time after DD comes.  We haven't done the ornaments or any other decorations, yet, though.

  • Also, I'm one who would love to jump on the Christmas bandwagon - music, movies, you name it.

But then, two weeks before Christmas, I'll scream every time Lifetime repeats a movie I've seen 10 times and curse at the radio when they play another crappy version of "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer."  I have to hold off so that my Christmas spirit doesn't run out before it even gets here.

  • No, I try not to pull out my Christmas stuff until the day after Thanksgiving.

  • Nope! We don't put up anything until the weekend after Thanksgiving. I do have fall decorations so those do stay out until we bring the Christmas stuff out.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE Christmas but that's just how we do it.

Uh wow. Worked up much? No one is accusing you of not being thankful for things because you have Christmas decorations up before Thanksgiving. Some people just prefer to wait until after Thanksgiving to do Christmas stuff...no one is trying to make you feel that way.

I don't decorate with lawn ornaments because I think those are tacky at any time of year. But YES, I do decorate for Thanksgiving/fall, and I know plenty of other people who do as well.

  • I have my nieces here with me so they started decorating the inside of my house today. No tree...just a bunch of other decorations. We will decorate the outside this week. I love this time of year!

A house on our street put the lights on their house about 2 weeks ago but I have not seen them on.

  • I've been itching to decorate for Christmas for weeks now!   We haven't done it but we are getting prepared.

Bought our new Christmas lights and started preparing them (bought white and blue strands and we are replacing every other light on the strands with the opposite color so our strands will be white-blue-white-blue).  Since dh is home today, he will probably get our Christmas stuff out so that we can go through it and see what we have, what we needs, what needs to be thrown away, etc.   Not sure what his week will be like work wise, so we may go ahead and start putting stuff up in the next day or two, if not it will be this coming weekend.

    this is me, Every word.
  • We are weekend after Thanksgiving people too.  I have out a fall flag and pumpkins until that point.  I have started to buy some decorations and I am making a new wreath but they won't go up just yet.
  • I personally think the day after Thanksgiving is too early, but at least some people wait that long. I used to hate to do Thanksgiving at my Aunt & Uncle's house before they had their two sets of twins and their house was professional decorated (actually, it looked like Santa barfed) before Thanksgiving. Every inch was covered and her side of the family wore their Christmas sweaters to Thanksgiving dinner.

  • Since DH gets the entire week off, we usually put up decorations sometime during Thanksgiving week. Ideally, the weekend after Tday, but sometimes it doesn't work out like that.
  • my tree is up and decorated.  i always do it the weekend before thanksgiving. we are hosting thanksgiving but i do not think anyone will judge me for it.  my parents and my sister put their trees up last weekend, too.  lol

  • I know some of y'all saw the picture of the people in my hood with full lights and wreaths up on October 14th.

I was starting to feel like a slacker around here.  So last weekend we put up most of the lights outside and started decorating inside.  The neighborhood peer pressure is getting to me Stick out tongue

  • No I will start the Monday after Thanksgiving. I may pull out the things on Saturday. I need to do our Christmas cards like pronto!
