ss? i have them well maintained, but not painted about half the time, the other half, they're painted. sometimes by me, sometimes by a pro.

I just got my nails done withe shellac polish last week and told DH this could become an expensive habit.

I'm hard on my nails, so polish doesn't last very long on me. I love it, but don't usually bother as it's so crushing to spend an hour doing them so carefully and then 2 days later they look like poo. That said...a week ago, I bought a new color from the OPI collection. 1 base coat, 2 polish coats, 1 top coat...and those suckers lasted until this weekend and looked FABULOUS! I was too busy doing seam magic on an ivory tablecloth last night to reapply though. And it's ridiculous, I always have an urge to buy new colors even when I only rarely wear them. I just love pretty colors in little bottles Embarrassed

I've really noticed a difference when I use new polish and I really love Seche Vite - you actually put it on when the last coat of color is still wet. I actually do all of my layers 'wet' - I don't wait for drying hardly at all. The Seche Vite dries really fast so you don't have to worry about ruining them easily - basically the very top hardens and then it's about another hour before the whole nail is completely done, but it makes it a lot easier.

I rarely get my nails done, but when I do I always go to a professional. I try to do it myself, but it always looks like I do a crappy job. And I always go with a French manicure, to me it always looks nice. : )

I go in phases. I love having color on my nails, but my nails are notoriously weak. They peel and chip and bend and snap really easily even with care.

But I am super addicted to nail polish. I can't seem to stop myself from buying a new Zoya polish every few months and I am so tempted to join Julep's Maven club. ^^;

When they're maintained, it's because I've had them professionally done. I like them to look nice, but have realized that I am just not competent to do it on my own, so I don't bother trying. However, I cannot afford to go to the salon all the time, either.

So it's a toss-up between, "I do the bare minimum" and "Yes, professionally".
