D&R question

If you have crown molding, is your ceiling the same color as the molding? We are getting ready to install crown molding and DH thinks I need to paint the ceiling because it will clash with the white on the molding. Painting a ceiling is the last thing I want to do right now.

Re: D&R question

  • I don't think so. Our ceiling is painted the same color as our walls (granted it still a neutral color), but I think it would be ok. It will actually make the crown molding "pop" more IMO.

Thats kinda what I was thinking. It seems like if I paint it the same white it will look funny. The walls are dark gray and the ceiling has a beige-y tone to it so I don't know if I can get away with it the way it is or if I still need to paint it a lighter more white color.

  • I would not want my walls or ceiling the same color as the molding.
  • Our walls and ceiling were all painted the same neutral beige color. When painting rooms, we haven't touched the ceiling and it looks just fine.

  • No, they do not have to be the same color and DO NOT paint your ceilings.  Talk about a nightmare.

  • I wouldn't be painting the ceilings either!

  • I think his big thing is he says the walls and the ceiling don't match.  The walls are gray with blue under tones.  The ceiling is very light beige with yellow-y hues.  Maybe I need to post a picture to see if everyone would still say it looks okay.
  • does it look weird without the crown?  if it looks okay without it, then I would think it would still look okay with it.  My walls and ceilings don't match, but all the ceilings are just an off white
