Thanksgiving Food

Im hungry and have Thanksgiving on the mind. What are you guys planning on making and eating on Thursday.

Re: Thanksgiving Food

  • We are having roasted turkey with gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, rolls and pumpkin pie. Smile

  • I'm not cooking, but I plan to EAT....smoked turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, stuffing, rolls, "green rice" (cheesy brocoli rice...a family fave), sweet potato casserole.  Various pies.  And this is a scaled back version of Thanksgiving this year.  haha

I'll probably make Caramel Apple Salad if I feel up for making it.  It's apparently all I can ever bring for any function ever ever again.  (everyone loves it and requests it)  But, I like it, so it's all good.

  • I'm almost embarrassed to list our menu, it's quite extensive. I'll be making all of it, except anything with a *.

    Pre-Dinner snacks:
    candied pecans
    pumpkin smoothies

    Dinner
    turkey w gravy
    stuffing
mashed potatoes (a la pioneer woman)
mashed sweet potatoes w carmelized onions
    *mashed turnips
    creamy pearl onions
    broccoli
    green beans (not a casserole)
    squash casserole
    *cranberry sauce
    *rolls

    Dessert:
    *apple pie
    *pumpkin pie
    *pound cake
    pumpkin snickerdoodles

  • I'm not cooking but at H's grandparents we usually have turkey, oyster dressing (bleh), gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potato cassarole, green beans, rolls, cranberry sauce. There is usually some kind of gelatin/fruit salad. I'm not sure what desserts we'll be having. I'm hoping for pecan pie.

  • The usual stuff, but my favorite hands down is slightly liquored up cranberry sauce with mandarin oranges and pecans. I could seriously eat a gallon of it.
  • I don't even know. I'm extremely bitter. My inlaws always seem to somehow ruin or cause chaos at every damn holiday and I'm sick of it. This is my favorite holiday and I'm one more drama filled email or phone call away from say screw you people and going to my mom's.

  • I am giving DH some pointers on how to make mashed potatoes since he's never made anything but the boxed variety before. IDK what meat we are having, I think ham, and I assume stuffing and sweet potato casserole. I was going to make an apple pie but now I'm not.

  • The usual list of suspects. I'm so happy about how easy my holidays are this year without having to deal with my ex psycho ILs. Sorry Christie, I totally feel your pain.
  • Sorry Christie, that sucks.  People suck.

    Here's our list:

    - Turkey
    - Ham
    - Gravy
    - Cranberry Sauce
    - Rolls
    - Green Bean Casserole
    - Corn Casserole
    - Cornbread Casserole
    - Potatoes au Gratin
    - Caramel Apple Pie
    - Derby Pie (Pecan pie with chocolate and bourbon)
    - Walnut Buttermilk Pie

  • Update: More drama unraveled tonight so I told DH that if he wanted to continue to enable their batshit craziness he was welcome to, but that I was going to my mom's. It doesn't even involve DH & I directly, it's between my MIL, SIL, BIL & his poor wife, but it always spills over into the holidays & there's an issue every year. I'm just sick of the drama so I'm removing myself from it & will enjoy the day with my mom, step dad & my uncles. DH understands.

  • Good for you. There's no reason you should be miserable. I hope you enjoy dinner with your mom.
  • Christie- Have fun at your moms! I wish my parents lived out of town, so we had an excuse to get out of town.

  • Thanks, ladies. I feel bad for DH. I know it wears on him, but I've reached my in-law max for the year. He always tries to be the neutral party & keep the peace, but sometimes you just have to say enough is enough & do what makes you happy. It's so silly. I know he's not looking forward to it because they've all stressed him out, but his brother basically told MIL & SIL to screw off so DH feels obligated to be there. Thank god we're with my family for Christmas.
