So I'm looking at a family day care provider (essentially small in home provider). I have interviewed one that I like, who is totally off the books. Only concern is potential that she will have WAY too many kids for my liking. So I have the list from our DSS website of other providers in the area. I keep meaning to call, but just haven't. 1) Is it okay to call after work? I just don't get a whole lot of time to call during the day.... 2) What initial questions would you ask? I have my large list of questions, but don't want to visit all these ladies if I don't have to...

16 read! my read shelf:
Out of curiosity, how many kids does the unregistered provider have? I only ask because Nora goes to an unregistered in-home DCP, too.
And yeah, you can call after work.

Thanks ladies - that is what I thought about the calling, but the one other time I did it I got a weird vibe. Wasn't sure if it was timing or the provider
Heather - she has 6 kids right now (7 including her own) 3 babies and 3 toddlers. She is expecting to have fewer toddlers; however she said her normal census is higher. In our state, the limit for a registered FCP is 6.
