Do you still need to pee after sex...

if you use a condom?  I find myself falling asleep right after sex (like before my husband even finishes removing the condom in the bathroom) and am worried that I am putting myself at risk for a UTI.

Re: Do you still need to pee after sex...

  • Absolutely! As gross as this sounds most UTIs are caused by E. coli which is an organism found in your intestines and comes out through your anus which is situated inconveniently close to your vaginal opening. This is also why women are supposed to wipe front to back to avoid contamination.
  • I've spent quite some time researching UTI's

Things that do not affect UTI risk:

    bathing vs showering
    wiping patterns
    post-coital voiding patterns

There is so much misinformation out there that even doctors spread these rumors to their patients. I'm assuming the logic went like this... "An anus has poop, poop has E. coli, E. coli causes UTIs, so if you wipe back to front, you will get a UTI! This is so much logic we don't even need to test out hypothesis!"

  • We use condoms, and I always pee after sex.

If you don't generally have a problem with UTI's, I wouldn't worry about it. I know some girls who MUST pee after sex and take cranberry pills daily or they will get UTIs.

  • Yes, still pee.  It's better to be safe.  UTIs are TERRIBLE!

  • I don't know if you HAVE to, but I always had to.  If I didn't it was a guaranteed UTI.  But I'm more prone to them than most I guess.

  • Never have had a(n) uti, never use a condom, (18 years together) and very rarely pee after.  Knocking on wood as I type this one-handed.  Just lucky I guess.

    This.

  • I always do, just to be safe. Better safe than sorry with a UTI! If you want to risk it, go ahead. If you ever get a UTI though, you'll never not pee again after sex!
  • The two times I did not get up and pee immediately after having sex, I found out I was pregnant two weeks later.

Now, I always get up and pee.

Where exactly did you find this misinformation? None of that is true.
