Dental Hygienist looking for a job.

Hello! I am new here. I have been reading the posts but never have posted one myself. I am a newlywed (10/15/2011).  Currently, I am looking for a job as a dental hygienist and I have been for about a year and a half. I guess I am just seeking any advice from any fellow hygienists out there. Do you have any tips for job searching that you found successful or words of encouragement? I am getting discouraged.

Re: Dental Hygienist looking for a job.

  • Network. Join linkedin.com if you haven't yet. Have someone look over your resume and cover letter and give you tips on how to improve it. Consider moving if that's going to find you a job/find you a job sooner.

  • Isn't there a national association for dental hygienists? If so, see if they have a job board or if they host fairs. Same thing if there's a state association. In my career field, that is hands down the best job source.
  • In my area dental hygenists jobs are hard to come by and full time jobs are even more scarce.  A friend of mine works two part time jobs and has no benefits.  The local univeristy has a great program and I think the area is a little oversaturated with students compared to jobs.  She is part of some subsituting list.  I guess if you need a day off you have to find another licensed hygenist to sub for you.  You might reach out and see if there is a way to get on the list to get your feet in some doors.

  • I know this is a super late reply... Hope you get this. What I found helped is walking your resume into offices, attaching a brightly coloured paper with your temping details to the back of your resume and cover letter, and having business cards made with your hours of availability. I now work full time, hope this helps you!
