Turkey day rants and raves (stolen from MM)
Rants:
I feel utterly helpless in this stupid cast, and it's been causing so many fights between me/DH. I'm really not looking forward to having family here, and not being able to do anything, or even easily escape the house.
Raves:
I'm ridiculously excited for the food. DH has an incredible dinner planned (including sous-vide turkey breast and turkey leg/wing/thigh confit), and we're going to have some awesome gluten free options (including my family's liverball soup recipe, biscuits, gravy, cornbread stuffing, french silk pie, and apple pie).
Re: Turkey day rants and raves (stolen from MM)
Rant: I really can't think of anything. Though there is going to be a ton of people at the IL's house and I'm not sure how I feel about that. I am used to four people max. I am also not going to know all of them because it's more of DH's side of the family.
Rave: Since I'm making one of the turkeys, I'm getting my cornbread stuffing that I LOVE!! Yay! Also, my parents are going to be at the IL's for the dinner, which will be nice.
my currently-reading shelf:
rant: we are hosting Thanksgiving and out of 11 people, we have 5 "maybe's" that's a huge difference in the amount of food we need to make. How hard is it to get your act together and let us know if you'll be there!!
Rave: of the 6 people that will for sure be coming, they've all offered to bring multiple things so we aren't stuck cooking everything. our friends are awesome
Rant: we are going to my parents', and my mom asked me to bring 2/3 of the dinner. I offered to host, but she insists it be at her house. So, that leaves H and I prepping a bunch of food, packing it up, toting it onto the ferry (along with 88 year old grandma and whatever she is bringing) and it's supposed to be rainy. Boo.
Rave: I love Thanksgiving. And this year, my birthday's on Thanksgiving, so my mom is making me an ice cream pie (my childhood favorite birthday cake). Even bigger rave... we're not at the in laws like last year. After Thanksgiving, we'll be able to come home, go black friday shopping, decorate, relax and enjoy the long weekend.

Seattle Rock n Roll Half Marathon, 06/23/2012
...more to come!
Rant: I'm pretty sure we won't be able to find a real thanksgiving dinner with all of the trimmings in Iceland, so no turkey this year.
Rave: we'll be in Iceland
I am excited to hear about it! Iceland is on our ever growing list!
I don't really have any rants I think!
Rave - On Thanksgiving we are having a "reunion" of sorts. Last year at this time one of my best friends was in a coma and they thought he was not going to make it. A few of us met up at a bar and had cheap champagne and cried because we were not allowed to see him. On Thursday all of us are going to get together and celebrate the fact that he made it and is healthy as can be
rant: i'm cooking thanksgiving dinner/lunch for work for tomorrow. work has been so busy and no one wanted to do anything.. (that's not a rant...) but it's after midnight and i'm still baking pies.. and i need to get up at 5 to put the turkey in.. fml.
rave: i'm helping mil cook and i'm excited. i hope it turns out how i want it to.. a good day full of good food. wish me luck.
rant: my brother
rant: i'm still not 100% from my cold 2 wks ago
rave: mexico TOMORROW!
rave: h felt the baby kick 20+ times last night. he normally feels one at a time, so this was very exciting!

Therickson -- that's wonderful!
Rant:
D's parents are hosting Thanksgiving (for ~20 people), and asked if anyone would be disappointed if the family's traditional stuffing wasn't present. D knows i love stuffing (but didn't realize i don't eat their's b/c it's in-bird stuffing that is made with broth), so he volunteered to make it. Now there will be stuffing that only i want, that i can't eat (or we make two batches... i guess there's a solution, yay!)
Rave:
I really enjoy spending time with his family and their holidays are always fun, so i'm looking forward to it. We're also running a 5k (followed by a light brunch) with his cousins in the morning and we go out for drinks later, so it's an all-day-fun affair.

Thanks for the happy little tears welling in my eyes right now. Needed some happy this morning.
Rant: We're having Thanksgiving with my family (again) this year. It seems like somehow DH always gets Christmas with his family, and my family gets Thanksgiving. I have no idea how this keeps happening every year (we're supposed to be switching off), but it does. That, and we're not having turkey until Friday when we get to cook our own Thanksgiving dinner because we're having suckling pig at my uncle's house.
Rave: It's my grandparent's 65th wedding anniversary on Thanksgiving, and it'll be a double celebration. Yay!

CDMay - why can't you have it with broth? I HATE in-bird stuffing so I make my stuffing and bake it in a casserole dish. My dad loves in-bird stuffing because he likes that it's kind of soggy, so I just put some of the stuffing in a small dish for him and soak it with broth to make it soggier.
Rant: I feel like I have so much going on this week that I can't get my house all prepped like I want (we're hosting) or spend time figuring out table linens and napkin rings and the fun, pretty touches.
Rave: First Thanksgiving in our new house! And so happy my work gives us both Thursday and Friday off.
