Washing your washing machine?

When DH and I bought our house, the applicances came with it, which is great. The washing machine and dryer are a bit old. But the washing machine is kind-of gross. The place where the fabric softener goes is all dirty and just icky. Luckily I don't use fabric softener but I would like to get rid of it the grossness. Any ideas?

Re: Washing your washing machine?

  •  Vinegar and put it on a hot hot cycle! Should take care of it! Smile Then for any of the area's that the washing cycle doesn't clean I would do the same with warm/hot water and gloves with a rag.

I ditto all of this. White vinegar works wonders on appliances (among other things).

  • I was going to say vinegar and hot hot water, too... just get a bucket of it and flush the fabric softner part....
  • Thank-you girls! I figured there was an easy solution like that.

  • thats how ours is but the vinegar and hot water wouldn't get the old fabric softener out it was literally rock hard. i looked in our owners manual on how to clean it and it showed me how to take that part of the washer apart so i could get at it. i had to take a butter knife and chisel it out and then washed that in vinegar and water in the sink. then put it back together and ran the cycle with vinegar.
