Have you gone to any cool international festivals/parties?
Have you ever gone to any cool international festivals or parties? Like running with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain or Carnival in Rio, Brazil?

It was good. We had general admission "seats" on the hill between the track and the castle. We got there early enough to score "seats" on the stone wall and had a decent view of the pits and one of the turns and the straight in front of the grandstand. ANd we weren't too far from bathrooms or food/beverage.
All of this for 80 Euros. Each. It would not have been as good if we had secured a crappy spot.
1. We happened to spend a long weekend in Z?rich back in the summer of 2009. It was the weekend of Euro Pride. Which I the big gay pride week that's passes around to different European cities each year.
2. The weekend we officially moved to Zurich in 2010. Was the last weekend of the big Z?rich Fest. It's full of fireworks, food stands, rides and entertainment. It's so big and intrusive that it can only happen every 3 years.
3. Zurich hosts every year a huge street parade. It's full of techno music trucks. It is a spin off of the German Love Parade. The downtown area is full of stages. Party goes well until the next morning. I went to the one in 2010 and 2011. Not really my thing but it's interesting to people watch. Tons of interesting costumes and nearly naked people.
4. In April, Z?rich celebrates Sechseluten (I butchered the spelling) All the guilds in Zurich gather in a parade while in traditional dress. Throwing candy, dead fish, and hard bread. School children parade in different period outfits.
Then the next day they light up the giant snowman they have up on a pyre. The snowman is called B??g and it's basically a boogie man in English. It's stuffed with explosives. They light the pyre up and some guild members ride around it while others are drumming. They time to see how long it takes to explode. Faster it goes off the better the summer will be. I blogged about it with pictures. I can't grab the link right now but if you click my blog you can find it. Should be tagged Switzerland.
I would plan a trip around seeing the B??g explode. It's just so bizarre of a tradition. You have to see it.
5. And even though I only lived in Switzerland for about a year I've been around for 3 Swiss National Days. The most recent one we went to downtown Z?rich to watch the parade and listen to the speech. The tone went from nice and calm to highly charged really fast. You didn't need to understand Swiss German to realize the tone of the speech. DH was fuming because the mayor (?) was giving a very anti immigration speech which moved on to criticizing Germans for taking jobs and how they shouldn't be in the country.

I went to Oktoberfest in 2003. It was ok, but I found it too crowded and we couldn't get into a tent anyway.
I went to the Love Parade 2004 (well it was called Fight the Power and Love Week that year).

I'm not sure how you'd classify this, but I was in Sevilla for Semana Santa in 2003. It was really interesting, but having been to Sevilla at other times of the year, I much prefer it.
I was in London for the Royal Wedding. DH and I had two friends over and then went to a street party afterward (the Republican one), more to be nosy of this 'experience' than anything.
We usually try to avoid large, crazy crowds, so haven't been to too many. DH has been running with the bulls and to Oktoberfest.
I've done Canada Day celebrations here in London. Not sure if this counts, we also went to Bethlehem on Christmas Eve with parades and lots of carols in the main square.

When I spent the summer in Italy years ago we went to Venice for the Festa del Rendentore. It's the biggest (or at least most expensive) fireworks display in the world. It was beautiful. Everyone crowds into the square and sits out in their boats.
Cape Town is supposed to have a great New Year's Day parade but we're never there on New Years.
I'm at the Edinburgh Festival every year. It's amazing and I'm totally obsessed with it. Last year I went to 15 or so shows in three weeks, it was outstanding.The entire city has a totally different vibe about it.
We went to Krakow for the Christmas Cribs competition at their Christmas market. I was fascinated by it, it's just amazing the level of work that goes into them. They have a parade around the square with the little kids and their tiny little christmas cribs all the way up to the grownups with huge ones that take 4-5 people to carry! They are super intricate and beautiful. One we saw was made entirely of stained glass.

I've been here for 3 Cannes Film Festivals, we haven't seen any films yet, but have got to attend some parties.
Two years ago we attended the Worldwide Festival in Sete, France, really cool week long music festival by the sea.
We attended the Corridas and Ferias in Beziers, France every summer with a group of friends.
A few Gay Pride - Montreal, Vancouver, Paris
When we lived in Montreal I would attend the big gay parties every year - Black and Blue Festival, Bal en Blanc
Montreux Jazz Festival in 1997.
Does being in England during the World Cup count? : p
Even though it wasn't hosted in England, it was still pretty amazing to be somewhere that is SO passionate about a sport.
Otherwise no, but I would SO love to!!

When I lived in Montreal I went to the Jazz Fest and Comedy Fest.
In Israel I went to the Pride Parade but it was pretty tame--the one in Boston was way better (no floats in the Israeli one).
I was in London (study abroad) during the Charles/Camilla wedding.
Oktoberfest in Munich
Also, I was in Paris for the French Bicentennial. Awesome!
