I just found out I was on Tricare. I thought I had to register or something. I am yet again clueless. Am I supposed to find a doctor on-base or off? Is there anything I am supposed to do? I feel like a moron not knowing how to go about figuring this stuff out. Any advice would be great. TIA. Have a wonderful night.
Re: Tricare question
There are two types of Tricare: Prime and Standard.
If you didn't go to the Tricare office and enroll in Prime then you are covered under Standard. You can see in-network providers and you'll pay a cost share. You can use Tricare's website to find network providers near you.
If you don't want to pay the cost share or you'd rather be seen on base you can go to the Tricare office and enroll in Prime. You will be assigned a military doctor (called a Primary Care Manager, PCM) and you'll see that person with no out-of-pocket expenses.
You just found out you had health insurance? What did you think you had before this?
And, yes, you kind of do have to register. Whenever I get to a new location I go to the tricare office where they assign me a new PCM. If there are none on your base they'll give you the option of a list of providers.
