Black Friday shopping

Who is going? What are you looking for, where are you planning to go, and will you be one of those people shopping from midnight straight on through the night?

Re: Black Friday shopping

  • Yep, I'm going.  I know I'm hitting Kohls and maybe Walmart (kill me now).  DH wants some video games and they seem to be cheap there.  I may go to Best  Buy or Target but not at midnight.... maybe closer to 2am after Kohls and Walmart.

Where ya going?  Did you have a nice trip to SC?

  • We're going!  We're hitting up Brooks Brothers, Banana Republic, and LL Bean (definitely, we'll probably add a few more in if we see good deals) at the outlets starting at 10 Thursday night.  I'm looking for something for my brother at BB and then the other places we'll just look for good deals. (I need snow boots haha.)

Then on the way back to my parents i'm going to try to bribe my mom and DH to stop at Walmart and/or Target because they should be open by then.  H and I are looking for a DSLR but I dont think we'll have much luck bc he wants a super specific one which I'm not seeing advertised but we'll still look anyway, and we're getting his family a Blu-Ray player for xmas so I'm sure we can find a good deal on that.  I'll keep an eye out for something for my mom (my dad is getting her an ipad so i'm thinking I can get some accessories for that) and my nephew.

H also wants to see if there's a good deal on a TV for our bedroom, we have one there now but I think he's over it ha.  I'm also on the lookout for an air mattress, new vacuum, and other random stuff like that.

I think I'll also convince them to go to Kohls at some point to see what they have on sale.

  • The only shopping I usually do on Black Friday is at the Greek church craft fair. I am looking more forward to the food there than I am at Thanksgiving.

How is this compared to the summer Greek Festival?  We go to that but haven't been to the craft fair. Is it a bunch of junky stuff?  Or good crafts?  Similar to the stuff they have at the summer festival?  I would love to go just for the desserts!

They usually have some decent stuff. Both of the big indoor rooms are filled with crafts and they serve food in the new room. Last year I bought some jewelry, a candle and an ornament. They have less food offerings than the summer festival though - you can usually only get gyros with the beef/lamb mixture whereas they have several meat and vegetarian offerings at the summer festival. They do have desserts as well. I think it's worth it just to go for the food.

  • I'm going.  I plan to go to Toy R Us/Babies R Us first then head over to Target.  We have 6 kids to buy for this year so I'm hoping to find some good deals.

Yeah! we went last year and it was a ton of fun, and honestly not even that crowded until we left around 1. If you don't want to go to Coach or Under Armour the lines etc move pretty fast! (and UA did not have good deals anyway.)

Yea, I have been going for years up in Lancaster but I didn't realize they were opening at 10 instead of midnight.

Thanks! If my mom wants to go, we may be there on Friday.
  • My mom and I are doing Target and Kohls, mostly for the sake of tradition than for trying to nab any crazy deals.  Neither of us are in the market for any big ticket items this year, but I've still seen some odds and ends that look promising.  I'm actually kinda excited for the midnight opening b/c I'm much more of a night owl, so I think I'll do better w/ this time!

Yes, had a great trip! I'm sitting in the airport now to fly home and it's 78 here and sunny. Sigh.

We went shopping for three days down here. Two malls, two outlets, and a handful of local shops so it kinda ruined my BF plans! I honestly don't know if I have anything to go for now which is upsetting me so I might just go to go haha. I love the craziness. DH wants a 3D tv, a new set of golf clubs, and I need a new laptop for work so I'm going to keep an eye out for those items. Otherwise, everyone is done :(

  • I hate that stores are opening at 10pm on Thanksgiving Day. When we were at Tanger outlets here in SC they said they're all opening at 10pm the night before, nationwide. I feel bad for the employees who likely have to leave family early or change plans because of this. I mean, sure, showing up to work at 3am isn't fun either but working ON Thanksgiving seems wrong. I miss when everything opened at 5am and no earlier than that.

honestly this is just the natural progression. As more and more people lined up at 5 am, 4 am, 3 am - why wouldn't stores try to capitalize more and more on that?    If people are willing to shop at 10 pm, 9 pm - the stores are going to open. At some point there may be backlash but considering the lines at the outlets last year at 930, I don't think that's happening.

I do feel bad for the employees but people don't really rail against others who go out to eat on Thanksgiving (which requires restaurants to be open, and people having to work).

  • I am prob going to go out thursday night. I have to go thru the ads one more time to make sure I really want to go, because there isn't anything major we are looking for. But I figure I will be up from watching the ravens game and since DH has to work Friday, I can't go out then because I don't want to bring DD out in that madness.

Yes, same church. It's Friday and Saturday.

  • No shopping for me.  I am excited that it's a holiday for me so I get to show instead.
