Grrrrrr

Someone broke into our apartment yesterday and stole most of our electronics.  They took our large tv from the living room, the dvd player, the wii, the PS2, stereo, our brand new laptop, DH electric guitar with amp, among other things.

I obviously did not sleep well last night, but am here at work today.

We think the cops may have a lead on who did this, but we don't know for sure.  Please pray that the find these idiots and we can get our stuff back.  Also pray for our next door neighbor who has only been there about 2-3 weeks.  The theives ransacked her place and got a lot more items there.

Anniversary

Re: Grrrrrr

  • OH MY GOSH!!!! I'm SO sorry that all happened! Holy crap!!!

Of course, the insurance agent in me right away thought of renter's insurance? Do you guys have it???

  • Yep, we have it.  Our apartment company requires it to live there.  We have already filed one claim this year when we were struck by lightening, so it should be interesting to see what they say.

  • So very sorry to hear this...and right at holiday time. There is never a good time for this to happen, but this time of the year makes it even worse. You guys are in my prayers...so so sorry :-(

  • OMG, that's awful! I'm so so sorry sweetie!

Hopefully your renter's insurance will cover most of it, but I know it doesn't make you feel any better that some stranger was in your apartment.

What is your apartment complex doing to make sure this doesn't happen again or to someone else?

  • Liz, last night maintenance came by and screwed all our windows shut as a temporary fix.  DH is the one dealing with them.  If I had to talk to them, I would probably lose it.  Last night they told us they would work with corporate to see what they can do to get us better windows and remove the big bush/shrub/tree right outside our window.

That's good. So I guess they figure the people got in through the window? At least they realize there are some things they can do to improve security around your apartment.

  • Well, as far as multiple claims, I know that some companies are different, but most *shouldn't* rate you up for having another claim. Most companies only raise rates on property (not auto) as a whole book of busy (as in, their rates change for an entire region, not just one policy). The only thing I've ever seen a company do on a renters/home/farm policy, is require a deductible raise...and that was after a couple different $30K+ losses (farmer).

So, hopefully some of that mumbo-jumbo helps ease your mind! : )

  • OMG I'm SO SO sorry that you are dealing with this. I can't imagine how stressful it is for you. Tons of thoughts and prayers coming your way that you can feel safer and also that they find these bad guys!!
  • Oh, man, that SUCKS!!! Thank goodness you have renters' insurance. It always surprises me how many people don't bother, when it only costs like $200/year. I hope they catch the guys and you get your stuff back!

  • That blows!  I hope the police catch whoever did this and your landlord/company gets tighter security!  Sending lots of Ts and Ps your way!

Yeah, the property manager called last night and said she was going to work on getting that bush removed quickly.  The reason we knew where they got in is because they left the blinds wide open, which we never do.  Still not sure how they got our tv thru the window, but whatever.

  • Oh my God, how SCARY!!! I know that you didn't sleep at all last night - I wouldn't have. I hope they catch the people & that you get all of your stuff back. YIKES!

  • UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is terrible!!  I can so relate to how you are feeling!!  When our house was broken into (3 weeks before our wedding) it was SUCH a major violation.  I have never felt that unsafe in my life.  Thank GOD DH and I had each other to get through it all.  We had our Wii, work laptop, cell phone, and jewelry (my mother's Ering, gma's Ering, and my mother's mother ring) taken...not to mention tons of damage to our house (i.e. broken windows etc).  I am so thankful you have renters insurance.  That's a help!

I know you guys are just renting...but maybe you can talk to an alarm company. We got alarms put in our place for barely any cost to us and it can be easily removed at any time.  It's not much different then hanging a picture etc.  It really helped ease my mind!!

Kristi, I have to admit that after I settled down last night, I thought about you and how you went through the same thing not that long ago.

I have also been thinking about the alarm system since we live on the first floor.  I am thinking about asking the management company to pay for it.  I know it would certainly make me feel a lot better.

I think you should ask them too!  We got a discount off of our home owners insurance.  I would imagine that your renters might be discounted too??  Danie would be a better person to answer that.  Each day gets better...it really does. I am sorry all of those things are gone, but I am really glad you are both safe. :)  If you have any questions about alarms etc...hit me up on FB!  :)

Depends on the company. I know most of mine give you a certain discount. Like, a minimum of 2% up to others offering 5 - 10%. Definitely worth looking in to.

  • Wow I am so sorry to hear about this.  There's nothing worse than feeling so violated.  :(  I am hoping and praying with every bit of my being they catch this asssh0le and get all your and your neighbor's stuff back.

I also hope karma bites them in the tush with a virus that leaves them unable to use their arms and legs so they can never steal anything again. I hate violators.

    HUG!!!
