So who is cooking for Thanksgiving?

And when are you starting?

Re: So who is cooking for Thanksgiving?

  • I usually do, but I don't think I'll have time with Audrey this year. I keep meaning to call Wegman's or Whole Foods to see if they have a dinner we can pick up.
  • I'm starting tonight- making my brine, dumping in my turkey and starting my cranberries.

Tomorrow I'm doing my yeast rolls (they rise for an entire day!), making pie crusts and finishing the cranberries.

Thursday we roast the turkey, boil and mash potatoes, peel and bake sweet potato casserole, put together the green bean casserole, bake the rolls and pies, and enjoy the feast!

Oooh, call immediately- I am pretty sure WF's date was yesterday, but try!  If not, you guys are welcome to come over.

  • Negative on all accounts, and I have no want to ever host Thanksgiving dinner either.  This year we're with Chris' family so it's on him to make the app we're bringing to his aunt's --I have no idea when he's going to start this but something tells me he's going to be shopping and making tomorrow night.

  • Since D has to work Thursday and all weekend, he can't go visit family. So I am doing a mini Thanksgiving at our apartment for him before I head to my family's cabin.

Nothing fancy - small turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, sausage stuffing, this weird fruit salad with marshmallows that I hate but he loves, and I'll heat up some of his grandmother's canned green beans.

Speaking of, I need to call his grandmother and get the recipe for the fruit salad...

I have not even purchased any ingredients yet. I'm winging it.

  • Thank God for potluck! There is no way I'd ever cook all of that food. I'm making a broccoli casserole and apple dumplings to take to MIL's. I'll cook Thursday morning.

Aw thank you so much for the invite! I'll let you know if one of the stores doesn't work out:)

  • We were un-ousted from Thanksgiving! Hurrah!

So, since it's potluck, I'm just making a few things. Roasted garlic mashed potatoes, maple glazed carrots, rolls, and caramel crumb bars.

  • *raises hand*

Today I'm just making turkey stock for the stuffing and gravy, and prepping some of my veggies (trimming green beans, chopping onions and celery for the stuffing)

Tomorrow I'm baking 2 pumpkin pies, making cranberry spice cake, and baking blueberry muffins (for breakfast Thursday)

Thursday I have to roast sweet potatos/butternut squash/carrots, roast the green beans, make the stuffing, do my yeast rolls, glaze my spice cake, mash my potatoes, and smoke the turkey! (actually, they boys are in charge of smoking the turkey)

    I love Thanksgiving...

  • I get a free pass this year. I just had to buy the supplies for a green bean casserole and pass them off to my sister!

  • We go to the inlaws for Thanksgiving and they take care of everything, I may bring a dessert if I feel up to baking tomorrow night and going to the store to get the stuff to make it

  • We're hosting and I've been pulling a temper tantrum about it for about a month now. Add on top of it everything that's been going on with my sister and I'm really not looking forward to it.

We finished all the grocery shopping last night and I will start the cooking tomorrow. I'm making a couple desserts, a couple apps and the mashed potatoes.  MIL is coming over tomorrow night and she's taking over the cooking. Since I don't want to host this meal anyway, I'm more than happy to let her have my kitchen.

  • I'm not cooking anything for Thanksgiving but I am having some friends over for dinner tomorrow night.  Puppy Friend never confirmed or denied so I'm +/- 2 people and I'm going shopping tomorrow and doing all of the cooking tomorrow.

Menu is: homemade bruschetta and parmesan toasts, antipasta skewers, salad with raspberry infused balsalmic dressing, garlic bread, stuffed shells with ground venison, and cherry crumb pie for dessert. sweet chambourcin with dinner and a bubbling niagara for dessert.

  • I'm making a pumpkin roll, but that's about it. My aunt is a crazy cook and my cousin is in culinary school, so between the two of them they really don't want/need anything. We'll probably bring a bottle of wine too.

I would host Thanksgiving but A. my whole family is in Providence and probably wouldn't want to drive the whole hour away to my house and  B. We really have nowhere to put a big table for everyone to sit at..our first floor is the kitchen and a good size living room, but we don't have a dining room. People would either be all crowded in the kitchen getting in the way or all crowded in the living room with some people having no place to sit down.

They say no honey for babies until 2 - due to botulism

  • I'm impressed with all you ladies doing the cooking, I'm not ready for that!

    However, I do contribute.

Tomorrow night we are having H's parents, sisters, and cousin over for a pre-thanksgiving meal, so I'm making a pasta dish.

Thursday we go to the in-laws, and they do most of the big stuff.  I contribute appetizers (baked brie, and these yummy bbq/cranberry cocktail meatballs) and some cookies for dessert (although they  make the most amazing desserts, I feel like I'm contributing something).

  • We offered to host since we finally have the space and My mom is dropping off the turkey for us to shove in the oven.  It's kind of like one big potluck over here...  Every family member is bringing a dish (THANK GOD) because there is no way either of us would have the time or energy to make all that food unless I hire NeunerWink
