Alternative to Snickers in a Snickers & Apple salad

If you're not familiar with it, it's Snickers, apples, vanilla pudding & cool whip.

I don't think I can use Snickers this year due to a nephew who has a nut allergy. I'm waiting to hear back from SIL to find out if it's ok to bring it or not.

I will probably end up using Milky way. Do you think I should find something to add the missing crunch of the nuts. I was thinking maybe pretzels. Do you think they'll hold up ok or does anyone have another suggestion?

Thanks

  • Milky Way or Twix would probably work. Twix has a crunchy-ish layer, I believe.

Pretzels would hold up ok, but I wouldn't eat the salad. :)

  • I do think the pretzels would get soggy but twix is a great suggestion from the pp. i was going to say kit kat with milky way but twix has it all.

  • Make sure you read the candy labels carefully, most candy bars are made in facilities that also handle nuts. (so there is still a chance for a peanut reaction even if there aren't actually nuts in that particular candy bar)

I was just going to post this.  Maybe to be safe check with the mom on whatever alternative candy you decide on.

  • Twix - perfect! :)

She said to go ahead and use Snickers and she'll keep him away from it, but I know he's had reactions from getting touched after someone else ate nuts, so I'll play it safe. He has never had trouble with things sharing a manufacturing facility, so that should be ok.

    Thanks ladies!

  • I have no advice to give, but oh my, it sounds delicious!
