Green bean casserole

I didn't realize so many people hated it.  Do you like it?  Why or why not?

I usually hate cream of anything soup, but I LOVE green bean casserole for some reason.

Re: Green bean casserole

  • It's my favorite dish!!!!!  I add sauteed onion and bacon to mine to give it more flavor. I also use cream of chicken instead of cream of mushroom.

    I'm drooling now :)

  • I love it!! It's even better leftover.

  • I'll eat it if it's there, but it's not an essential dish in our house.

  • Um, I'm obsessed with it.  My whole family is.  My sister makes it so well.  I know most of it tastes the same but hers is just better.  I cannot wait to eat it.

  • i have never had it. I need to make a batch!

  • I'd rather eat green beans without all the processed goop.  Like, sauted with almonds, a little bacon, garlic, and some red onion.  Now, that's delicious!

  • HATE it, if you couldn't tell by the response below. I hate cream of anything soups, white sauces of any kind really, and I hate mushrooms. The green beans always seem to be overcooked and just the look of it makes me want to retch.
  • Blech, it is so gross! I don't mind cream of blank soups but we just don't eat it at our thanksgiving. Dh's family eats it every thanksgiving. I have only had one version that was good and it was Dh's Aunt made the sauce from scratch with whole mushrooms, bacon and cream, yum!

  • Never had it, never will.  It's never been on an Thanksgiving table I've been at.

Same here.  I have to say though that these posts have me intrigued!

  • I am not a huge fan. I will take a small spoonful if its there, but I am not going to finish the bowl off. I would rather have fresh green beans than mushy can ones. :)

  • Love it.  Give me the processed, out of a can goodness that is only had once a year.  Can't wait.
  • I love it! I was shopping with my parents for the Thanksgiving dinner over the weekend and my mom asked, "Do we really need green bean casserole this year?" I looked at her like she was the craziest woman on the planet and quickly told her, "Hell yeah! It wouldn't be Thanksgiving without it!"
