Holiday weekend plans?

Starting this early since I figure some people will start traveling tomorrow.

We're doing dinner with DH's family in Bethlehem, and then leaving after dinner to drive to Jersey to be with my family. The reason for doing double time is that we're telling both families that I'm KU. Super excited about that.

We're staying at my parents' for the remainder of the weekend, because I have my 10 yr high school reunion on Saturday. Should be interesting.

I'm mostly excited for 4 days off of work!

Re: Holiday weekend plans?

  • i am so happy about the lack of turkey plans (relatively speaking).  we are driving up thurs morning, stopping in dh's mom's mom quickly (i hope) and then dinner at his dad's mom's with the rest of the fam.  we are going to see my mom and extended fam in south jerz on friday and come home on friday night.

there are some family issues going on right now so we are trying to minimize the time we are spending up in the area.  i love that little man has swimming lessons on saturday morning so we can get out of dodge without too many questions.

  • Thursday we'll be spending the day with DH's family at his aunt's house.  It's always a good time.  I'm looking forward to V's first major holiday.

Sunday my mom is having her own Thanksgiving redo dinner since she goes to my sister's for the actual holiday.  So we get 2 dinners this weekend.  Plus I've yet to pick up my free turkey as I have zero freezer space!

  • A friend and his gf invited us to thier house for dinner, which was nice because otherwise I'd be buying a pre-cooked rotissire chicken and microwavable potatoes.

When I went home for Thanksgiving, we always invited a friend who had nowhere to go, so it is nice to see the favor come full circle.

    I have to work Friday and we're dog-sitting Wed-Mon.

  • Hopefully getting out of work early tomorrow and then going home to make Thanksgiving desserts. Spending the holiday at my mom's--we have a really small family, just me, DH, my mom, brother, and aunt, so it's relatively stress free. Friday, probably starting to decorate the house and avoiding Black Friday crowds. On Saturday, BFF and I are heading up to NY to do a bit of shopping and see Hugh Jackman in Concert!

  • I am cooking Thanksgiving day at my parents' house.  My mom fell and broke her wrist and elbow of her dominant hand, so she can't do much of anything in the kitchen.  My dad is currently in the hospital recovering from a surgery to remove part of his kidney, and he should be home tomorrow.  Yeah, my parents are pretty much falling apart...hopefully they will both be fully recovered by Christmas :)

We usually have about 25 people for dinner, but this year it will just be immediate family, my aunt and grandfather.  My dad is feeling pretty crappy and in a lot of pain, so having a house full of people isn't a great idea.

I have never cooked a bird of any kind, but I am following Pioneer Woman's brine recipe and Alton Brown's cooking method - so hopefully I'll be okay!

JessH - good luck telling yours and DH's family - so exciting!

ETA:  I will spend Friday decorating the inside of the house and DH will probably be on the roof channeling Clark Griswold.  My 85-year-old neighbor will be praying the rosary from his front window while watching DH, haha.

  • Ha!  Love the picture, Lachute!  He looks like a mini-Bond!

Well, my boss gave us the entire day off tomorrow (instead of a half day), so I plan on baking for Thanksgiving and running a few small errands.  I'm also hoping to make a few more freezer meals.

On the actual day, we are hitting Mr.D's family first and then up to Allentown to see my dad's side later in the day.

Mr.D has to work Friday so I'll be organizing baby clothes, prepping my diapers and doing other assorted fun tasks around the house.

  • Milo looks so handsome!!!!  Have fun at the "Wedding"

I'm cooking at home this year.  It was just going to be myself and my mom and dad, but DH was able to get someone to work for him, so he'll be home now too.

Friday, start decorating, then dinner out with old friends.

Saturday, more decorating, possible card game at cousin-n-laws

Sunday, finsih up and relax.  And I guess some laundry too.

  • Have fun telling your families, Jess!

Tomorrow baking a pumpkin pie and prepping the green bean casserole

Thursday - possibly stopping at my Aunt and Uncles then dinner at my sister's with my parents

Friday - Not sure yet but will definitely not be shopping!

Saturday - going to visit the in-laws

Sunday - Santa express train ride in West Chester with the kiddos.

  • I cannot wait to hear about this wedding. Milo will be the talk of the room, I'm sure!

I just decided that I'm taking the day off tomorrow -- woot!

  • Jess- How exciting!  Have fun.

Lachute- Milo looks so adorable in his little tux.  Hopefully there is no drama and you have a good time.

Wednesday- I have to work *sigh* but I am on pick up ravioli duty since my parents have to go to a doctor's appointment and my mom is afraid the store will sell out of ravioli.  DH is off so I think we will have a date night and go see Breaking Dawn and go out for pho.

Thursday- Turkey Day!  DH and I will probably watch the NCIS marathon on USA (yes, we are boring) before heading over to my mom's for the 100 course dinner. We may also stop by his dad's on the way.

Friday- I am on the hunt for a new TV stand so we actually have room for a Christmas tree.  I also need to start finding Christmas deocrations in our still to be unpacked a year later things in the basement.

Saturday- Lowe's is coming to hang our new blinds so I can finally rip down the paper ones, thoroughly wash the windows and decorate.

Sunday- Food shopping, church, brunch and relax.

  • Lachute- i cannot take the cuteness!! what a stud!

to avoid family drama, I opted not to cook this year so we are having dinner at MIL's house in NJ- I am responsible for salad, dessert, and wine. I'm being completely lazy and ordered all my pies from Heritage Winery & Bakery so I can do a one stop shop tomorrow after work.

Last year we started a new black friday tradition that I am hoping sticks. I am going to decorate in the morning. Then we're planning a late lunch out with the kids, a subway trip to CC to see the light show, dicken's village and visit santa.

Saturday is shot since T1 has hockey evaluations from 2-5 so I will probably do stuff around the house.

Sunday we were supposed to be leaving for Mexico but our trip is now postponed. Instead, DH and I are heading to AC for the night to celebrate my birthday with dinner and some outlet shopping.

  • Tonight: Cleaning and prepping a shopping list for tomorrow.

Tomorrow: I took off of work. I'll be braving the grocery store in the morning and prepping what I can for Thanksgiving dinner and taking care of last minute cleaning in the afternoon and evening. My sister, her husband and my niece will be getting in late Wednesday night.

Thursday: Hopefully all of my prepping will pay off and I can cook, relax and hangout with my sister and co. for the holiday.

Friday: Still undecided but I'd like to go do something "touristy" while my sister is here.

Saturday: MIL&FIL are coming over for brunch (they'll be spending Thanksgiving with BIL this year). I believe my sister will be heading back home after brunch so I'll probably veg out on the couch the rest of the day.

Sunday: Maybe a little more vegging and some light cleaning up from the holiday.

  • Work tomorrow night til 9:30, then I am off for 4 days- I haven't had this much time off since...high school I guess!

Thursday: Turkey at DH's aunt's house- this is our annual 15 hours Thanksgiving that makes my head spin.  Thankfully, to reward myself for (hopefully) surviving without killing anybody I am bribing myself with Friday plans...

Friday: I booked a massage.  DH gave me a GC back on Valentine's Day and I never went, so I am going on Friday when he gets home from work.  Yay!  After that, I'd like to decorate the house for Christmas.

Saturday is my 10 year HS Reunion- I don't think I'm going, but I also didn't make plans otherwise yet in case I change my mind.  If I don't go to that, maybe some Christmas shopping.

Sunday my 3 friends and I are taking our kiddos to Sesame Place for A Very Furry Christmas- we decided to do a fun outing this year instead of exchanging with each other/the kiddos.

  • Tonight: in my mind, I'm going to try to make an apple pie and a side or two, but that might not happen.

T-day: I'm cooking, there will be just 3 of us; there are some family issues right now and I'm looking forward to 2011 coming to an end; I wish I could skip the holidays this year. Indifferent

Friday: decorate the exterior of the house for Christmas; help the mr get some interior painting done; write thank you notes to the people that donated to my race earlier this month

Saturday: more house stuff; some small shopping for Small Biz Saturday; 30th bday party

Sunday: all star game for mr's flag football league
