DCto Low and BH - I didn't get to Verizon until 8pm!!!!! But there was a showing then so I walked right in, grabbed my bucket o' popcorn and sat right down.....sorry I missed you guys but oy! the traffic! (it took 2.5 hours to get from Herndon to Verizon!)
So - what did you think of the movie? The acting is soooo bad, right up there with the directing -- I guess that's what I should blame for the incredibly long pauses between one actor speaking and the next?
On the other hand. Jacob, no shirt in the first scene. I did smile at that. And the work of the makeup artist on Bella, when she was getting so sick - pretty damned good bc it did look like she had lost half of her weight (bones sticking out, etc.).
And yes, I will go see Part II, bc now I have to. ![]()
Re: Breaking Dawn (likely spoilers, at some point)
Yes, the acting is not the best, BUT, I think Kristen Stewart's acting has vastly improved, and I thought that a connection between Edward and Bella was much more visible this time around. In addition to awesome makeup on Bella, I read that there is a lot of CGI done on her because she seriously looks like she pulled a Christian Bale in The Machinist.
I totally got teary at the end when they did the montage of the Edward/Bella story, and showed images of Bella as a baby with her parents together.
And wedding speeches -- AWKWARD!! That almost rivaled Bridesmaids. I wonder if that was intentionally awkward.
My thoughts:
-Not enough Jacob (or wolfy) shirtlessness in general. It seemed like they had a whole wardrobe stashed out in the woods.
-This is a general complaint about Part 1 of 2 movies, but it seems like the plot raced merrily along to get somewhere and right when it gets interesting, it's over.
-A lot of the inner turmoil of Jacob and Edward about Bella's pregnancy seemed glossed over.
-I thought the weight loss was CGI as well since it's not like K.Stew needs to lose any weight!
-Maybe it's because I read the books too closely but I felt like the buildup for the honeymoon scenes and the "graphic" birth scenes was overblown.
-I'm still squeamish about Jacob imprinting on a baby.
I loved seeing the movie though! The theater was full of other adults like us and we all giggled at the same parts.
I loved it, but found it to be fabulously awful. I'm still LOLing at the big wolf scene where Jacob defies Sam and splits from the pack. I mean, come on! How could someone not laugh at that?!
I agree with DCtoLow about the overblown build up to the sex scene and the birth scene. The sex scene was lame, but I did like the next morning (before Edward gets all constipated) when Bella is remembering the night before, that was romantical ;-)
The wedding toasts were hilarious...so glad they added those in. And I actually loved Bella's wedding dress--but probably only on her or someone with a figure exactly like hers.
I'm also with DCtoLow on being weirded out by Jacob imprinting on the baby. The phrase "dude, it's a baby! gross!" kept going through my head.
The wolves stayed clothed far too much...we got like 2 maybe three good peeks at Jacob's abs? And almost nothing of Edward except him back in the honeymoon montage. I think Summit needs to realize that we go to see these movies for the man-meat! And I needed a bigger helping ;-)
