Hair managment

I've never been good at this.  Usually, if I don't just scrunch and go (wavy hair) I blow-dry halfway, sorta curl it under with a round brush and leave. 5-10 minutes tops.

What do you guys do?

Also, I asked for a flat iron for Christmas... I have no idea how to use the thing.  Eep.

Re: Hair managment

  • I'm lazy, so I usually throw it back in a bun while it's wet. Sometimes it looks nice and wavy when I take it down, but other times it is terrible and crinkly.

I always blow-dry my bangs, though, or there will be major problems. And if I'm not lazy I blow-dry my hair.

Oh, and I also don't know how to use a flat iron, and I'm bad with a curling iron. I burned my forehead last week with a curling iron (trying to fix unruly bangs) and now I have a big red mark on my forehead which I have to hide with my bangs. Hair is complicated.

OW. Curling irons are the devil. Call it a forehead hickey?

I was in a lot of musicals growing up and was used to getting my hair teased, back-combed and curled Shirley Temple style, but doing it myself is another matter. I always ended up with the little kink at the end of my hair -the mark of a novice curler.

  • I blowdry my bangs with the nozzle pointing down.  Then I blowdry the rest of my hair upside down (bend at the waist and fluff with my fingers as I go).  I don't use a brush until I'm done.  Then I flat-iron my bangs.

For me, it's all about the cut and the product.  If I have to work at styling my hair, then I'm gonna look like shiit.

ETA: I have fine, mostly straight hair.  I have sections that like to get wavy when it's humid.

    This is my siggy.
  • I have wavy hair too. I put some stuff in it and let it air dry. A little scrunching and done.

If I dry it, I usually have to straighten it or it looks like crap. This cut is not the best for straight hair. I need a diffuser.

  • I shower in the morning, towel dry my hair a little, brush it out and that be the end of my hair regimen. I brush it out again once I get to work. It's usually dry by then. I also brush it sporadically throughout the day, just to get rid of any tangles.

I own a hair dryer, but I never use it. I've never owned a flat iron (someone tried to sell me one once... that was funny considering my hair is naturally stick straight). I haven't owned a curling iron since early high school (I graduated HS in 2000).

My hair is straight, all one length and down to about the middle of my back. I use cheapass Aussie shampoo and conditioner... that's it. I've found that their volume collection actually does give me extra volume.

  • I shower at night and do nothing.  Wake up with crazy hair.  Throw hair in a ponytail and head out the door.

Also, a flat iron is easier to use than a round brush, imo.

  • I have wavy hair as well, but I keep it short enough that a quick blow dry with a roll brush and sometimes flat iron after helps smooth it out.
  • Mousse/leave in conditioner, Blow dry (upside down) like bowies, straighten

  • Ugh, I'm hopeless with hair. Fortunately mine looks okay-ish with minimal effort but it never looks great. I wash, comb, put some products in (root booster and mousse), and dry it for 5-10 min till it's damp-dry. My hair is almost bra-length and super thick, silky and straight, so it takes forever to fully dry and when it does, it doesn't hold a style for shiit, so I usually just let it finish drying throughout the day. If I'm feeling really ambitious I'll dry it all the way.

Whoever can use a round brush properly, I applaud you.

This is my winter routine, except I use oil instead of leave in conditioner, and then I hot roll instead of straightening. This is good for two days, then repeat.

QFT, I still can't quite get certain angles.

  • I don't understand how people don't use round brushes. How do you get close to the root? How do you curls the ends up/under?

My hair dresser doesn't use a round brush and it drives me crazy. For all her talents, she sucks at blowdrying.

Me either, the round/roll brush is essential to styling my hair as I dry it. Otherwise it's flat and total crap.

I'm pretty sure the last time I tried to use a round brush, my hair got all tangled in it. Now I don't brush my hair at all. Just a comb through when it's wet. My hair does that curl under thing all on its own.

This is what happens to me. Not the rest of that awesome stuff where your hair just handles its own business, though. Mine gets kind of like this if I dry it partway with product in:

     It could be worse.
