Whether it's the guest list, the food, a family tradition or something else. What is it about your Thanksgiving that others may find odd.
I was just talking with someone at work about our guest list. After telling him who would be there, he just said "that's messed up". Which, I guess it is, but I never thought of it that way, it's just family. There will be my mother, my father, my father's wife (the woman he cheated on my mother with over 30 years ago), their son and his girlfriend, MIL and her second husband, and BIL with his daughter and her baby mama (the girl's mother, but they have never been a couple), another BIL is bringing his Irish girlfriend for her first ever Thanksgiving meal. We also have a few other brothers and their others coming, but they're pretty normal.
Re: Anyone else have a "messed up" Thanksgiving?
Others may not feel this is odd, but I do. We always spend Thanksgiving with DH's family. None of them drink and completely look upon drinking as bad. DH drinks, but he never has alcohol around the house when his parents visit. So, every holiday his family pulls out sparkling grape juice and champagne/wine glasses. We toast things and then people joke about getting drunk from it. They also make a burbon pecan pie and joke about it needing more burbon and getting drunk from it.
I get uncomfortable about the whole thing. If you are so anti alcohol don't make it fun and games at the holidays.
When you have a messed up family, every holiday is messed up. There are several occasions I can remember when the police have shown up at family gatherings on my mom's side... when I was in middle school, they actually planned an intervention on a druggie cousin on Christmas.
DH and I just had the discussion in the car today that all of our parents are wacko and we wish we had "normal" families to help us with Landon.
Every day is an emotional rollercoaster with our parents around.
