XP: iPad/Kindle & Downloading Cookbooks

I use my iPad all the time in the kitchen for random recipes, but they are usually from blogs and websites, not cookbooks.

If you had a Kindle/Nook would you download cookbooks to it, and use it? Or would you prefer a hard copy of the book?

Re: XP: iPad/Kindle & Downloading Cookbooks

  • Given how much of a mess I make when I cook, I'd probably want a hard copy.
  • I actually might download cookbooks to a Kindle. I don't buy cookbooks, but I do use my iPhone to follow recipes. Kaesha brings up a good point about the mess, so I'd probably want a stand or something to keep it at eye level and away from anything that splatters or spills.

The other bonus is that it's small compared to cookbook hard copies. In my tiny kitchen, that's a big deal.

  • I've used my phone, Ipod touch, and ipad for recipes online. I like to see pictures so I don't think I would use my kindle for this purpose.

  • I'm a huge kindle lover, but I still think I'd want a hard cover for this. I make a huge mess as well, but there's something about having paper recipes.

  • I also need to add I am a mess in the kitchen. I have turned on my ipad with my nose so i can see the recipe once it goes to sleep. Embarrassed

haha do I see a one of those protective screens in your future? I usually prop mine up and keep a napkin next to it to press the screen again.

  • I almost never use paper/book recipes, so I love this idea.  I'm always on my phone too, or setting up my laptop on our kitchen island.  I'm not too into the idea of an iPad EXCEPT for how convenient it would be in the kitchen, but I could definitely see myself using a cookbook on my e-reader.

  • I have downloaded many cookbooks to my Kindle, but I'm not sure how much I like it yet.  They don't always have a good index or table of contents, so there's a lot of scrolling.  Gooseberry Patch has several smaller cookbooks that are easy to use on Kindle (many are available free).
