If you are/were in the States would you go out on Black Friday?

My parents always dragged me out of bed like at 4 in the morning to go shopping on Black Friday. This year, they told me that they are going to open the stores on Thanksgiving at night. They are still going to get up early on Friday but they refused to go shopping on Thanksgiving.

So did you or do you go shopping on Black Friday?

  • Nee, Nope, No Way, Hell NO! LOL

  • They could give me every single item that I wanted, for free, and they still couldn't convince me to face that mad house on Black Friday.

  • No way. I hate crowds and I have no extra money to go shopping anyways.
  • I've never gone shopping on Black Friday.  After the guy got trampled to death at Walmart a few years ago, I don't think I ever will.   No cheap TV is worth my life or anyone else's.  It's a shame that Black Friday deals have pushed people to act so badly that it results in death, but it has, and I really want no part of it.

Besides, I prefer to do the bulk of my Christmas shopping online while I'm in my PJs :-)

  • I am an online shopper and I've bought a few things on Black Friday on Amazon (they always have some super cheap DVDs).

One year, DH and I went out on Black Friday just to see what it was like. We'd been living overseas for a few years and were pretty entertained by the whole thing. But yes, the trampling that happened the next year pretty much killed any amusement we had from it. I think we went to Best Buy or something since we wanted a couple things for ourselves. It was easier for us to just stay up until 4am rather than get up at 4am so we went out with friends, went shopping, bought almost nothing and then went to bed.

  • I've gone a few times when I was younger...much younger, but I wouldn't go now. It's not really worth it to me and it is always so crazy out!

  • Yes but never at the big box stores.  Bloomingdales and Nordstrom are less of a mad house and I only shop for clothes on black Friday anyway.

  • I usuallly go on Friday afternoon so not rock bottom prices, but not bad either.  Usually by that time all the early morning shoppers are taking a nap so the stores are pretty empty.

  • I did once and it was a big mistake.  Never again!
  • No.  We went Saturday evening to a large mall and they already had traffic guards in all of the garages.  I thought we had another week before the chaos began!  We found parking, but I'm sure many people didn't.  I heard one clerk saying it took her 1.5 hours to find parking.  The Germans have it right, keeping and showing electronic count of the available spaces.

  • I was thinking of going to Best Buy at midnight because I am looking for something for ds that is sold out everywhere but they supposedly have, but I think I found one at barnes and noble so I won't need to, because I really, really have no interest in doing it!

I used to go with my mom and sister, but wouldn't go with teh kids. I will browse online though - not that it will do much good.

(Although apparently teh Lego store, even in the UK, is having a sale Friday...)

  • I live in the states & have NEVER done Black Friday.  I would probably cuta b!tch if I did; I hate shopping in general & can't imagine subjecting myself to that brand of insanity.  I've done all my holiday shopping online or while traveling (did it in India when we were visiting ILs this summer) for years.

  • I'm going! I don't typically get up really early and go. I just go in the morning and see what is out there. Since I didn't go last year I am really looking forward to going. Two years ago when DH flew to see me for Thanksgiving we went out at stood outside at best buy from 11:30pm till they open the doors at 5:30am?. The lines were so long inside to collect your stuff and then to check out that we didn't get out of there till 8:30am. I told him I would never do that again.

I have a list of stuff I'm looking to get. Mostly small kitchen appliances that I would like for the apartment. I think I might start out at Target since it opens at midnight. Then the rest I'll probably won't go out till after 9am.

  • I'm sitting my butt on the couch and watching the Criminal Minds marathon on A&E. I fear for my life on Black Friday. Although there has only been one death that I know of, I still don't fancy getting my war elbows on. My cousin actually got punched in the face last year because she reached for the last Christmas edition Yankee Candle gift set at the same time as some crazy old woman.
  • MIL and I had a tradition of going, but that only lasted two years before I moved to Belgium. It was always fun - we got up super early and would hit Kohls, Bed Bath and Beyond, Kmart or Target. She had already read all the ads, made up a list of exactly what she wanted and we'd make out with some great deals! I don't think I would attempt an electronic store - but clothing places are not too bad. The trick is for one person to start standing in line if its crazy long and the other would be the runner going after whatever you specifically wanted to buy. When we moved to BE though, MIL started shopping online with the Amazon black friday deals. That's good too :)

We're headed to the Maldives on Christmas Eve!

    Holiday
  • I don't understand Black Friday at all - Holidays are for spending time with family and friends not shopping - i think its actually really sad that instead of all sitting around in a food induced comas watching movies together people go out or because they went out they sleep the day away.

This will be my first Thanksgiving in the US and you couldn't pay me money to go out that late and shop!
