What are you making (did you make) for Thanksgiving?

What are you making for Thanksgiving?

Or if you celebrated in Canada, what did you make?

Re: What are you making (did you make) for Thanksgiving?

  • I'm making cranberry sauce for a friend feast Saturday (looking for a new recipe... if anyone has one they want to share)...

Possibly making a turkey for youth group feast Wednesday... if not, I'll make some dressing and mashed potatoes...

And making caramel apple pie and green bean casserole for family feasts on Thanksgiving.

I'm pretty excited.  I love making Thanksgiving-ish food.  Smile

  • I'm making more food than DH would like, but I have to eat too (vegetarian amongst meat-eaters at a pitch-in).  The list looks like this so far: maple-cider roasted quorn loaf, balsamic roasted greenbeans and mushrooms, pecan apple cornbread dressing, and apple pie trifle.

I was thinking about making "turkey" tamales but decided I'll save that for December--hate to kill a tradition.

That sounds like a great spread!  Would you share your recipes if they're easily shared?

  • We're making sweet potato souffle and a wild rice salad.  I hope it all gets eaten because we leave 2 days later for vacation and my fridge needs to be empty!
  • My sister-in-law does all the cooking.  I love her to the moon and back  Angel
My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!

Yum!  Send the leftovers to me!  Wink

  • Thanks Munkii!

And Muffin's Mom -- you have a good deal going on!  Smile

  • I'm doing trial T-day tonight and decided to use this recipe for dressing instead: http://www.oprah.com/food/Cornbread-Dressing-with-Turkey-Sausage-and-Apples.  It's super yum! At least it is with field roast apple and sage "sausage" and vegetable broth.  Also, I substituted 1 cup of the veg broth with apple cider.  You must try it!

  • On Wednesday - I'm making stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and oreo truffles.  And I make the gravy right before we eat.

  • I am always in charge of desset so I made this:

It was delicious. Not to sweet and just a nice touch after a big turkey dinner.

Yum!   I've made a dressing similar to this before.  But adding apple cider?  That's a winner!  I think I'll try it for DH and my Thanksgiving next week (we both love Thanksgiving food too much so we always make one just for us after all the "real" festivities are done).

  • DH is making a pecan pie and I am making a new dish that I learned from a co-worker.  It's called pumpkin crunch, or something like that... it's amazing!

It's a pumpkin mixture - pumpkin, evaporated milk, eggs, spices - poured in a casserole dish.  Then, a layer of yellow cake mix goes on top of that, with some nuts and melted butter.  Bake and enjoy the crap out of it!  I hope it turns out as well as it did when my co-worker made it. :)

I really want to make a pumpkin cheesecake but I'd just eat the whole thing myself!

In a week or two, I'll be making some Ritz cracker/peanut butter/dipped in chocolate cookies to bring to work.  I do them once a year and I've already gotten a request for them! :)
