I have been unhappy at my job for a while. I love my students, yet my department tends to be very toxic, the university is unstable regarding if keeping positions, plus it is a 2 hour commute. So a position opened up 20 minutes from my house and I am going to apply. These positions are highly sought after and my chances of getting it are slim. However, I think I need to explore it. AAHHH--my belly is full of butterflies and I am so nervous. I have a case of "the grass isn't always greener" syndrome. What if I switch spots and it is just as bad?
Ok, time to settle down and get down to teaching my last day before break. Thanks for listening.
Re: New Job- vent
Aw, sorry you're going through this. I go through this every day that I'm too tired to think about making the hour long drive to my school; I can't imagine two hours each way!
I applied for a job 5 minutes from my house last year, and it came down to me and one other person, but the other got it. It was for a reason; I know now that I would not of been happy there. But I applied because, at the back of my mind, I knew that I could always turn them down if I was offered the position.
So for sure apply for it; you can always say no if you decide that it's not the job for you. And if it is, you don't want to spend the rest of your life wondering "what if..." Good luck!
I agree with the above. You have to give if a go, or you will never know.
Good Luck!!! Make sure you keep us updated.
