I'm a paranoid person I guess..
I hate that I always think of worse case scenarios. We are taking our baby sitter to Germany with us next month and I think, what if she takes him in Germany or holds a knife to him for ransom. I'm so going to stop watching TV.
Even when I fly, I picture the plane going down or losing cabin pressure. I think of how I'll handle the situation to make DS calm.
I'm nuts! (kidding...I think LOL)

Re: I'm a paranoid person I guess..
Funny - I was actually thinking of starting a post asking about irrational fears today. Mine (besides my long-standing fear of plane crashes) is that while traveling with DD I'll get stuck somewhere without access to diapers or formula. So even when making relatively short trips, I usually bring enough to last... well... way longer than necessary, anyway. In my defense, sometimes people actually do get stuck overnight on the Autobahn in their cars if there's a major accident and they're past the last exit before the accident. But then the Red Cross usually comes with food and water and stuff, and I'm sure they would help out with a baby. So, yeah, it's irrational.
For our upcoming trip to the States - direct Frankfurt to Chicago - I don't have to worry about getting stuck in a layover airport because of snowstorms, but I am worried about being diverted. That happened to a plane from Paris a few weeks ago bc of the NY snow storm. They were diverted to CT and had to stay on board on the ground for 10 hours, I read.
Hm, I am irrationally afraid of finding a dead body. Don't ask me why, I have no idea. All I know is that when I go into a dark secluded area (like the enclosed area around a dumpster) my heart starts beating faster, I find it a little harder to breathe, and sometimes I even start shaking a little.
And yes, I do find it odd that going into those dark secluded areas doesn't make me think of being attacked lol

I'm just as crazy. When we flew to the UK in May(DS's only time on an airplane) he only really slept on my lap. I was terrified of the roof of the plane detaching - what? it happens! - so I kind of slumped over him and held onto him tight because I was afraid he'd get sucked out.
Yes, I am nuts.
Me too!! I can't take the garbage out because I'm scared someone will be hiding, dead or alive, in the big bins. And when I walk my son to school in the mornings, we walk along a canal and then through a large wooded area and I'm always afraid of seeing hands and feet poking out of the brush. It just seems like most bodies are found by walkers in the early morning, you know?
I'm also irrationally afraid that someone is going to either steal my son from his room during the night, or that he'll stop breathing, so I still check on him 5+ times per night. Ugh, irrational fears suck.
Wow, I can not believe that I'm not the only person on this board with that fear!!
And I know I will be one of these parents that is nervous with my kids. I don't have kids yet, but I can see myself having the same paranoia you ladies are talking about.

We once had friends get stuck on a flight from Mexico with their twin boys and run out of nappies, they were mortified and just kept stuffing their nappies with toilet paper which worked until one of them did a poop.
With that Paris-NY flight I mentioned that got diverted to CT, one of the men they interviewed in the article I read said that it was particularly bad for those with infants, and one mom had to borrow diapers from another mom because she ran out.
