Seattle Nesties
Dear Community,

Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

If you have questions about this, please email help@theknot.com.

Thank you.

Note: This only affects The Nest's community members and will not affect members on The Bump or The Knot.

Adopting a family for the holidays...

Where do you do it?

When we lived in Renton we did it through the Salvation Army..When we moved to Ballard we couldn't find a close place so we sent gift cards to Solid Ground.

We donate quarterly to the Ballard Food Bank, so we'd prefer to find a family and/or grab an angel card somewhere.

We're open to other suggestions as well. We do not buy gifts for each other, we give back to the community.

Re: Adopting a family for the holidays...

  • we've always done it through h's work. there's always somebody that picks a family for the team to adopt, and then they give you the option to do one on your own. i can't think of what org it is though.

  • My company adopts families (one family per floor) through Overlake Service League, Phoenix Housing something (?)  and Youth Eastside Services, then everyone on the floors buys gifts for the family members as well as does fundraising to provide the family with grocery gift cards. I think all of the organizations we've worked with are on the Eastside, but I'm sure there are some in Seattle if you're looking to help closer to home.

Great idea, and bravo to you and YH for helping others in the community in this way!

  • I usually grab a gift tag off of my company's Adopt a Family tree.

We always get our families through Child Haven, here's their website to adopt a family:   http://www.childhaven.org/how-you-can-help/help-a-child-or-family/Adopt-a-Family.aspx
