Are you all celebrating Thanksgiving this year?
DH and I are hosting our company's annual Thanksgiving potluck at our apartment, and a surprisingly large amount of non-American friends are coming. We have about 16 people in total, so DH and I are going to rent a long table and some folding chairs. It's turning into quite an event. The group is about half American, 1 Canadian, 2 French, 1 German, and 1 British person. I'm interested to see what they all think of the feast.
Wish me luck!
We're headed to the Maldives on Christmas Eve!

Re: Thanksgiving
Last year I didn't celebrate. We were driving 7 hours to Germany for BIL's confirmation. My thanksgiving meal was Burger King. If we wouldn't of been traveling I probably would of made a nice meal at home.

Yes, we are hosting Thanksgiving at our place again this year. I cooked last year for all of DH's coworkers who weren't going home for the holidays, and the same this year, plus a few friends! Turns out we'll be having 16 people tomorrow...had only planned for 10, so need to go out and do some more shopping tonight!
Also need to go to IKEA, as we only have enough table space for 6. Oops!

We're actually doing two Thanksgivings! :-) We're at an American university though, so there are lots of Americans here.
The first one is tomorrow night, once I finish up at work, and the other one is on Friday.
For tomorrow, I'm making 2 pumpkin pies and green bean casserole (all from scratch), and then stuffing/dressing for Friday. I am going to make regular white stuffing, and then hopefully some cornbread dressing!

Yup, we love Thanksgiving. For the last few years we've always had a giant feast at our flat. We can fit 10 people squeezed around our table and we usually scale all the food for around twice that and hope for leftovers! It's always a mix of nationalities and this year it includes my friend's parents who are visiting from Australia.
Starting the cooking tonight! It's always an amusing challenge to coordinate everything with our tiny under the counter fridge :-)

Yes, but we're in the States with all my family for a couple weeks specifically for Thanksgiving. I haven't celebrated Thanksgiving in a few years, so I'm very excited.
Last year we had just moved to South Africa and DH didn't even remember it was Thanksgiving (why should he, he's not American) but by the end of the day I was in tears because I was sad not to be with my family. I think I would have been fine if we'd made some fanfare of the day, even just roasting a chicken and celebrating together.

today is Thanksgiving here - and we're doing nothing
I was crying last night about it - I wish I was back in MN today
instead I'm just working, and dh and I will go to a movie this week to celebrate as we met 12 years ago on Thanksgiving day
I need to get my act together & make something with pumpkin in it to eat this weekend!!!!
We're sort of celebrating by going to dinner with some American freinds, but it's at British restaurant, so I'm not sure what to expect as far as food goes.
About 10 years ago we had Thanksgiving dinner in Luxembourg with a bunch of our friends at an "American" restaurant which was run by a Brit. The "American Thanksgiving Menu" sounded perfect: Shrimp cocktail, turkey, with gravy and cranberry sauce, stuffing, green beans, apple pie and California wine -- but it was all just wrong. Starting with the Ernst & Julio Gallo boxed wine and tiny prawns in a mary-rose sauce. The turkey was prepared like a beef stew in the gravy, the cranberry sauce was actually a "sauce" the consistency of runny ketchup, and the "apple pie" was really bread pudding with apples on top. By the end of the meal (and the end of our box of wine) we were all cracking up. The food tasted good, but it was not at all a traditional American Thanksgiving meal!
This sounds awesome! Thanksgiving in NYC - I would love to see that parade!
