Happy Thanksgiving Eve!!
Ugh thanks to Rod Ryan.... now hubby wants to try brining a turkey this year.
IWe have fried a turkey every year for the last 10 years and somehow never heard of this before. Does anyone have a method or recipe they can share. I have googled and found a few sites but nothing beats the experience from the Nesties.
side note: we are not the "martha stewart" type...meaning no fancy berries or crazy things. We normally just use creole butter injection from Academy.
Also we do not have room in the refrigerator to hold the 20lb turkey over night. I have read about coolers - do you use ice? It seems that would mess with the salt to water ratio when the ice melts.
TIA Ladies
Re: Brining Turkey - HELP!!!
it was cold enough one year at Christmas we just left it on the back patio. we use a giant paint bucket from Lowe's and just soak it in there. It actually fits in the fridge if we take a shelf out and move things around a bit.
DH uses Alton Brown's method.
Thank you Kelly.
Does your DH brine and inject with seasoning? or just brines in a seasoned mixture?
He just soaks it for a day before cooking it... it pretty much soaks in so there's no need to inject.
My dad has been using a brine similar to this for more than 10 years
